Beat me to it. I was going to post it later tonight after some of the Tranghese is retiring posts started to calm down a bit. 03-wink

Anyway, the interesting pieces of information coming out of this are:

1) the fact that one of the two (Nova and Providence) will make the announcement about committing after the league is formally announced and that the other is still up in the air, but will likely also commit.

2) there are no immediate plans for a BE championship game for the sport

I wonder if the latter has to do with Syracuse wanting the championship game fixed site be at the Carrier Dome? 03-lmfao

Cheers,
Neil

Awesome quote from Daryl Gross:
Quote:"...but I just think it is a concession. We have been the anchor for lacrosse. If we go and start a Big East, everyone would be kind of tail-coating off of Syracuse. There are some good teams obviously with Georgetown, Notre Dame, etc. You know it is just important that we maintain the history and the things that made us great over the years."

I'd love to bring in Johns Hopkins as an associate member and create a weekly TV game of the week on ESPNU or even ESPN2. Syracuse is taking one for the team...however, Dr. Gross made it clear they expect the BE Tournament to be held in the Dome when they get to that point.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Lacross League happen. Its an up and coming sport and has a chance of becoming very popular. I would like to see Pitt and a few more football schools start up programs and eventually join this league.

RE: Looks like BE lacrosse is going to be a reality
I really think a Big east lax league does more good for the other Big East lax programs not name "Syracuse". I mean how long will it take for SU fans to start whinning because they have to play Villanova and Providence program who beniefte by just playing Syracuse. SU I is sacraficing alot for the other Big East lax programs because the Big East lax league will undoubtly weaken Syracuse SOS and kill of our traditional rivaleries in the sport. Providence and Nova program that don't even want meet minimum scholorship level but they get to privilage to play Syracuse every year. I hope we can get the Big East tourny moved to the Carrier Dome for all of this.

RE: Looks like BE lacrosse is going to be a reality
Seven teams are more than enough since it looks like both Providence and Villanova will commit along with Syracuse, St. John's, Rutgers, Notre Dame, and Georgetown. That gives us a six-game Big East schedule and plenty of flexibility. Syracuse can still schedule Johns Hopkins and other traditional powers as non-conference games. I would personally have no problem with the Carrier Dome as a longterm Big East Tournament host site but we will see how that plays out when the league leaders themselves actually vote on the matter.

It actually would be a good location because aside from ND and Rutgers, none of the schools would have a viable facility and 'Cuse would be pretty much centrally located for the LAX members.

RE: Looks like BE lacrosse is going to be a reality
You boys up north enjoy your lacrosse league. A bunch of fellas running around with sticks running around beating the crap out of each other while trying to put a ball in a net looks like a lot of fun. Those of us here in the south, mid-south, north-south, and mid-west have decided to form our own Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que League. The league offices for the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que League will be centrally located here in Louisville.
So far we have extended invitations to the good ol' boys at WVU, Pittsburgh, UC and USF. We have also decided to invite Memphis and ECU as associate members of the Big East for Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que purposes only.
Thus far we have heard from representatives from....

Pitt... They said count us in. It is noted that the folks in Pittsburgh drink Iron City and eat Kielbasa so we figure they can eat and drink just about anything.

WVU...The Mountaineers are excited about being invited to the new Big East Beer drinking and Bar-B-Que league. They too will eat just about anything but have made a request when it comes to their alcohol of choice. The folks from Morgantown will be bringing their own home-made man beverages because they think beer is for sissies. As the only sober member of the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que league I have decided to grant this exemption. It has also been noted that the basketball coach at WVU will be allowed to attend our gatherings but has been asked not to drive after doing so.

UC... They have conditionally accepted membership in the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que league pending the approval of Nancy L. Zimpher. It is noted that Ms. Zimpher hates athletics and cares even less for beer drinking. Lord knows if anyone in the Big East Beer drinking and Bar-B-Que league truly needs this league it's the folks at UC. Something else to note is, like Pitt, the good ol' boys at UC can't really qualify as good ol' boys because technically they are Yankees. We are willing however to grant them grand fathered good ol' boy status for hanging out with Louisville, Memphis and West Virginia good ol' boys for many seasons in the Non-Big East Beer drinking and Bar-B-Que leagues.

USF…The Bulls are extremely excited to be members of the Big East Beer drinking and Bar-B-Que league, the country’s premier beer drinking and bar-b-que league. The folks in Tampa insist for some reason in being allowed to bring their own brand, Schlitz Red Bull and Schlitz Bull Ice. They have also asked if Billy Dee Williams could be given good ol’ boy status as well. It has been noted that Billy Dee may just be too cool to be a good ol’ boy. We’ll just have to wait and see if he shows up with a six pack of malt liqueur.

Memphis....Has been invited because they bring some of the best Bar-B-Que in the world into the league. An exemption may be in order for the good ol’ boys in Memphis as they are more partial to Jack Daniels than beer. We’ll discuss this exception further at some future date when we get the contingent from Memphis sobered up.

ECU…We are still awaiting acceptance of our invite from the folks at ECU. Turns out it is difficult to get a group of Pirates to agree on most anything. We are hopeful that by the time the Big East Beer Drinking Bar-B-Que League holds its first event that ECU representatives will have come to a consensus.

UofL...As the founding member of the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que League it should be noted that this league has being established is a sure sign that the parent Big East league will soon split and invite Memphis and ECU as full members. It should also be noted the preferred stick of choice for the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que League is the Louisville Slugger. Beer of choice for the Louisville team…Fall City or Oertels 92.

Drink up Lads …Its always Beer Drinking Season in the Big East Beer Drinking and Bar-B-Que League.

Jim, funny as that is, it doesn’t belong in this thread. Let’s all try to simmer down with our internal strife.

BTW, isn't Indiana "Yankee Territory"? 03-nerner

Someone is on a high horse. But if that's all you have to cling to, with no viable football team, I can't blame them. Lax is good and all, but in our neck of the woods it's on par with collegiate golf, tennis, or rowing. None-the-less, I am happy the BEast is getting a Lax league, and I am looking forward to The Ville hopefully putting a team together to rule the roost in a short time.

And yet that not-so-viable football team as a 35 point dog managed to beat Louisville at Papa John's. 05-stirthepot

We have more than lacrosse to cling to. You will see that when your fb team comes to the Dome and leaves with another loss to a team that you say only has lacrosse to cling to. 03-lmfao

Hmm, under dog, what exactly is an under dog. I think first it's a dog, and second it's under because of all the beatings it regularly takes. Regular beatings.... dog.... yeah, that sounds about right.

We may be the underdog, and maybe not, but we still lead the series 4-3.
Cheer up ArmyMike, maybe you guys will be able to beat us again some day in the future. Then you can be happy again. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

Remember those words? You said those very words to me in 2006 after Louisville slapped the Cuse around. I bet you didn't realize that that day would be the very next time that our teams played did you?

You're barking up the wrong tree--so you think UL can wave a magic wand and rule the Lax roost which includes a team which has won 10 of the last 25 national championships? C-USA fans warned us about you guys 03-lmfao

What was the FB score again in 2007?

Nah, I just wanted to push your buttons and spar a little. I mean no real harm. I'm just taking a few jabs. It's all fun and games. But when things get moved over here to this board it's no fun. I don't think many people read over here.
