Looks like he's be a solid get. Wouldn't he have to sit out per transfer rules though making him an 09 player?

Kinda foggy, but it seems he was not on schlolarship at Maryland where he enrolled in Jan 2008 after sitting out the first semester and the previous year waiting to get clearance from the ACC to play.

Gilchrist to leave Maryland
# Center Gus Gilchrist of Temple Hills-Progressive Christian Academy, Md., who chose the Terps after being released from his scholarship at Virginia Tech, has been granted a transfer by Maryland. Gilchrist sat out last season after enrolling at Maryland in January 2008. He was the Most Valuable Player of the Capital Classic all-star game in 2007. "Gus has asked for a release to explore other options which may allow him to play more games at another university outside the Atlantic Coast Conference, pending an NCAA waiver," said coach Gary Williams.
Virginia Tech released Gilchrist from his Class 2007 National Letter of Intent. Gilchrist cited his personal safety as the reason he wanted to attend another school following the shooting tragedy on the VT campus. Md, GTown, WVa, Va. Signed with Maryland, but gained release.

Can we still sign a player for 2008?
