I will show my ignorance of the rules here, but I have a question. If schools want to add men LAX does that mean they may have to add another women's sport or at least add scholarships in other sports? Don't the amounts to men and women have to be proportional?

Yup...Title IX. I wouldn't expect to see many programs added unless other sports were cut.

A fully funded Men's Lax team has 12.6 annual scholies. So if you have a 50/50 Men/Womens ratio you ned to fund 12.6 scholies for ladies elsewhere. Don't even bother trying to play Big East Lax unless you jump in all the way...Cuse, GT, ND and even Rutgers will kill you if you don't.

I think it is obvious that one of the biggest hold-ups almost has to be Villanova and/or Providence adding on enough scholarships to get to 12.6, or maybe even 12, or possibly even 10.

Without knowing how many scholarships Villanova currently awards, let's say 5, it is telling that it seems so difficult for them to add 5 or 7 more plus a corresponding women's number.

Yet people think Villanova would find it easy to add 22 scholarships, plus a corresponding women's number, and upgrade their facilities to what they need to succeed in the BCS football?

Syracuse, Rutgers, St. John's, Georgetown, and Notre Dame all seem like they are ready to go. Maybe we should just grab Hobart and not worry about the Wildcats and Friars for now.

I don't know if I like that proposal. I think I'd rather see SU stay independant than start another part-time association. It seems to work well enough for us.

Besides Hobart has enough problems. They announced they were dropping out of Div.1 back to Div.3, and then reversed their decision within days. then the coach left.

I did not realize Hobart's coach left. One thing after another with them. Scratch that thought. I was just throwing something out there due to being annoyed with Villanova and Providence.

Maybe the Big East should just tell those two they have no choice but to join in lacrosse, get their butts kicked, finish in 6th place and 7th place every year, and like it (even if they don't).

I still think Nova comes through and that should be sufficient enough for the league.

Still, I wouldn't mind if they said no if the league could invite Penn State and Ohio State to join. Assuming UL does come on board, that would balance the 'mid-western' side of ND, OSU, UL, and PSU with the 'northeastern' side of SU, GT, Rutgers, and St. John's.

Doubt Syracuse would go for it though.

Cheers,
Neil

I assume that Syracuse only wants a six-team or seven-team Big East. Right? It might not be a good idea to invite Penn State and Ohio State anyway just because none of us would be able to stand the sight of a Big Ten team winning a Big East championship. Ugh! I think the Nittany Lions will end up helping the Buckeyes keep the GWLL solvent while letting the ECAC fade into the history books.

As a Syracuse fan, that would NEVER happen. 03-lmfao

I was thinking more along the lines of being a lacrosse fan. The more Super-6 teams that get on the board, the better for the sport.

Cheers,
Neil
