14 is a good number. Get an east coast team to balance Temple. I liked the idea of UMass, but like the idea of Hofstra better. Hofstra carries some weight in the NYC/LI/NJ market. Making the conference balanced with another eastern team might entice Temple to bring all-sports to the MAC.

You could also play a few more seasons in an unbalanced mode and see what happens in 2010. You either get Temple or get to kick them out of another conference. They would be the only school kicked out of two collegiate sports conferences.

Marshall is useless.

Hey, been a long time since I have been on this board. Was getting a kick seeing you guys still worry about Marshall after all this years.

Lets face it, you guys have not had the national attention like you had when we were there. We made the conference better.

Granted we are going through a rough time but we will be back up again.

The post that I really had to laugh at is the one from Letch. He said we thought we would come in and win everything and when we didnt we got mad and left. WHAT? Our first 8 years back in Division 1 was in the MAC. Mind you that is a 1-AA team coming into Div. 1 conference. In that eight years we never had a losing season. We won the conference title 5 times and our division 6 times. And if our team wouldnt have quit on us at Akron in 04 we would have won it 7 times and who knows about the title game. With three Hiesman candidates during that stretch. So what the heck are you talking about that we got upset we didnt win. What an ignorant statement for you to make.

I live in SW OHio about a hour from Miami. The MAC worked great for me to see a lot of games. My step daughter was at
OU when Marshall was in the MAC and
I used to live and teach near OU. So there were things about the MAC that worked out great for us.

But CUSA may not be rated any higher than the MAC but there are more bowl tie ins and more money from tv etc. Look at our 99 team that went undefeated and finshed 10th. We had to beat a good Western Michigan team twice that year. The second one was the championship game where we were down by 23 at half and had to come back. With only one bowl tie-in if did not come back and win that game a ranked team that went 11-0 in the regualr season would had not gone to a bowl. That Western Michigan team should have had a chance to go to a bowl also. Our 2003 team finished 8-4 with a win at #6 Kansas State. A great Miami team won the east that year. Marshall did not get a bowl invite. In CUSA in both scenarios we would get an invite to a bowl with more tie-ins (meaning if we would have lost the 99 title game)

C-USA just made more sense for us to try and move up the ladder to achieve our long term goals. Some of you forget when we came in the league and our national rep. at the time it helped the MAC. The Mac teams got better becasue of us. We helped create more bowl tie-ins for the conference. Say what you want, we were good for the MAC and the MAC WAS ALSO GOOD FOR US.

So no letch, we won plenty and were not upset. You might want to check records and facts before you make such statements. We did and do not want to stay status qou. We hope to move up to a BCS League some day. LET ME STATE WE ARE NOT ANYWHERE NEAR READY FOR THAT AND WE KNOW THAT.

But we have goals. It was nothing against the MAC. We are down right now but we be back winning again very soon. And for you Bobcat fans, I am glad to be playing you again. We need a few easy W's before conference play. :)

Sorry...most of us feel that a team that "won it all" by cheating in myriad ways really didn't win squat. They stole. It's really that simple.

uakronkid Wrote:I'm curious. Would you want them back if the Big East ever takes Memphis? They will want out of C-USA, with the one thing that gives the conference legitimacy gone.

I am afraid there will be an overwhelmingly negative reaction, based on some people's feelings stemming from past differences, but try to consider it objectively.

We need a 14th member. There are rivalries that can be resurrected. They can help shift the conferene a bit more eastward, like the guys in the front office want. I think their football fans have been served a nice little slice of humble pie since the move to C-USA. You don't have to wait for some school to be eligible to move up to D-I. I know they don't exactly give us a large media market, nor are they an improvement to the league's quality, but Temple was considered to be a step backwards in quality when we invited them, and now they will soon be ready to compete as well as anybody else in the league.

Tell us: What would your reasons be for wanting them to re-join or be kept out?

Someone start the twilight zone music. the Big east is not taking Memphis.

Toledo has been nailed once before by the NCAA, looks like they may be again for point shaving in football and basketball. Players selling out there school.

Akron got into trouble on the soccer side. EMU, I believe has been in the NCAA dog house as well.

We don't like it or condone what was done. We have paid the price for sure. But to say all our MAC titles were won by cheating is a HUGE stretch. How a player getting paid higher wages for a legit job translates into better play on the football field is beyond me. These kids were on the roster or sitting out and paying their own way. It wasn't about recruiting and admitting kids illegally or improper schollies.

FWIW, I liked being in the MAC, easy travel and good rivalries.

Of course, Marshall failed to even win a share of the MAC East title in the 2 years that the Herd did not have a 1st Round NFL QB. The Herd has basically fallen off the football map in the 2nd half of this decade. As such, if the Herd was in the MAC now, Marshall would a JAT ("Just Another Team"). In addition, although Miami has won or shared the MAC East title 4 of the last 5 years, Miami football really has not been a major Non-BCS force that it was during the Marshall-Miami rivalry days. So the Miami-Marshall rivalry would not be as fun now I guess.

Advance to the present...Marshall is just another team that beats MAC teams. BGSU and Ohio both went down last year. And Snyder was heading the ship at Marshall.
