RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
If the Ponder thing works out I think we will be in good shape at WR.
I think a lot of those guys will get playing time quickly. There are a few guys on the current roster at WR that I dont see working out like Deshon Lawrence... and who knows about White. He just seems to be snake-bitten. But we are definitely going big... I'd like to see us grab a 5-11/5-10 guy that has speed and can handle the slot.

RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
I spoke to Thatcher a few weeks ago, not sure why he hasn't grabbed the offer to Arizona. He wants to play, and early PT may be his motivation. Also said he wants to find he perfect fit. He also told me he's taking all of his visits which is often an indicator that they want to do some traveling.

Well, Ponder is aboard so I am pretty happy about that. Still could use another wideout and Fritz Rock would definitely make this WR group a real good one.

RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
Perry wide receiver Trey Smith made an official visit to Western Michigan the weekend of December 5 and seems to be leaning towards the Kalamazoo, Mich., school.
“It went real well real,” Smith said in a text message. “(The school) really felt like home to me; the coaches and players were cool.”
Smith hasn’t yet committed to Western Michigan but did watch practice and said he thought his chances of playing early were good based on the team’s lack of depth at wide receiver.

Bringing in four standout WRers would we awesome. What depth those guys will give us in years to come! Ponder in particular looks set to step in and give us some quality minutes.

RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
Broncos grabbed another JC DE today, TJ Lynch. He's a really good one, big and fast.
Two JC DE's in two days, a very good haul! And both are big as well, so could project into DT as well.
I see us grabbing two more DL men-my guess would be Keith Carter (DT) and Cole Jirik (DE), both true frosh, are strongly in the mix for those last two slots.

RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
By my count we have 17 verbals with about 25 total recruits this year. Where will we focus the rest of them?
We have only one LBer thus far, Kyle Lark. We need 3-4 total. Probably grab another 2-3.
We have only one DB so far, Damond Smith. We need 3-4 total. Probably grab another 2-3.
We have two JC DLmen, probably grab 2 frosh.
We have NO Running back's committed thus far. Probably grab 1-2.
IMO, the best split would be 2-2-2-2 or 3-2-2-1.

Philly, I believe Western may have a RB right now as well, I think the kid out of Delaware may have commited. According to a rivals link he roomed with Damond Smith and Damond said Fields committed the day before. Damond also said some real good players from GMC were there (Lynch) and some real good WR from the south were there as well (ponder?).
Sounds like these guys are liking what they see in each other as much as what they are seeing at WMU. Thats a good thing, if a talented guy sees others as talented or more talented going to a school, its going to convince him they can win.

Just was looking at some things and Scout has some quotes from Kyle Jenkins. He is not a Bronco apparently. He signed a national letter of intent to go Northern Illinois.

Philly, I think we only get one more LB this year. That spot is relatively young for us and Lark and one other should be good for this year.
I see us maybe grabbing 2 more DB's. Again, we are solid on our depth there with young guys as well. We need a safety for sure, but with Smith in the fold, we have a 2 deep plus already. Not to mention if we over recruit WR, you have Dervon Wallace to go back to S as well.
We only have 1 JC DE, as Jenkins verbal did not stick. We will get another I am sure. As far as that goes I think we will get 2 more DT's after that and one DE.
RB I say we grab two, sounds like Fields may be one. Scriven, Baskerville, and Russell are all good options for the second to me. Dominique Bell out of Chicago is impressive too.
I really don't think we pass up the opportunity to take another WR if we feel that they are worth it. If Rock or Trey Smith verbal, I think you make room cause with that kind of talent, you can move guys like Arnheim back to their normal position.

I have the story on Jenkins. Nobody jumped the gun. I'll post it on Rivals on the Zoo site after the bball game.

Well, you need to define the Inside Information process so I'm not left sitting here wondering if you like me anymore.

Lewis Toler and Brian Fields appear to have verballed to the Broncos.

RE: Official Recruiting thread 2009
I spoke to the William Penn AD earlier today and will talk to the players after school. The good thing here is that both of these players were at or near the top of the list for WMU. Western is not settling for any Plan B's. These are kids they had hoped to get, and they're getting players that are coveted by some pretty good programs. This is not a case of WMU vs. a couple of MAC schools. Lynch had serious interest from Louisville and NC State. Fields and Toler both had offers from Marshall, and were getting hard looks from Cinci and NC State.
