"New" Blazermobile
OK, I have reached my limit on putting gas in the pick-up truck! So, I'm selling off my beloved beast and replacing it with a car. I don't do War Between the States reenacting anymore, so I can't justify a need for driving my gas guzzler.
So, on Saturday I'm picking up my new wheels. I was hoping for a mid to late '90s BMW in a good dark green and actually found one at an acceptable price! This one's a '98 328i.
A gold Blaze head on the lower part of each front fender would be a nice touch, don't you think?

The E36 is a damn nice Bimmer, you'll love it. It's one of the best 3 series in recent memory. Hope you do at least some of your own wrenching though, there are going to be some things needed and it's a whole lot cheaper if you do it yourself. Parts are not as bad as reputed. You'll probably need to redo the suspension bushings. A performance chip is a fairly cheap upgrade. You can also bolt on various M3 bits as you can find/afford them. There are, as always with performance cars, tons of things you can upgrade to increase the fun ratio.
There are a lot of useful forums where you can talk to folks who know a damn sight more than I do about them, I'd start with the e36 forum on bimmerforums http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/for...y.php?f=14 . I'd start a "Just bought an E36, what should I do first?" thread and see what they have to say. There are a lot of nice guys on the Grassroots Motorsports forums as well - great magazine if you have not seen it. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/board/
Grats man, I'm envious. I've been kicking around buying something similar, although I like the "is" instead of the "i" - you give up the power windows and such for decreased weight. It looks like a lovely ride indeed. Get it right then take a little jaunt down to the Tail of the Dragon!

Thanks Band Dad. I appreciate the info, particularly on the forums. I do almost all of my own wrenching. It's great fun and very satisfying.
I also have a 1982 320i, which is currently up on jack stands to get the center support bearing for the propeller shaft replaced. That car is great, but not the one I want to rely on for everyday driving without a back-up. I am going to get Historic plates for the '82.
There used to be a really great 320i forum, but the guy who was running it gave up on it for some reason. I wish he had offered the forum to someone else on the board, but he simply announced he was tired of hosting and shut it down.
The car was not ready yet today, so I will have to wait until next week.

I like this one. It's green, and a gas saver too.
