My take on the two party thing would be:

Democrats- Pragmatic problem solvers who need to be reigned in by a solid opposition party when their big ideas get too big for their own good. A tent that is almost too big, and haven to too many fringe idealists for electoral success.

Republicans - Angry, bigots with a victim complex who think the culture doesn't appreciate them enough so they help narrowly elect politicians who fail completely in running the government but talk about things they like and can identify with, and hate the same people they do.

Or people who earn over $200,000 a year and actually benefit from Republican policies.

Libertarians- People who believe in a flawed and failed ideology that is as bad as Marxism, and can't fully appreciate the irony that they care so much about a publicly funded University when advocating for a system that would close it down tomorrow.
