RE: Great show by the MOB
Chuck, Great show... now THAT is MOBworthy!!

04-bow

douchebag=jerk to someone too young to watch Southpark... since you don't generally see them anymore, you don't need to explain it any more than that... It's no worse than the commercials for dugs whose side effects include "anal leakage"...

You might not want your child repeating it, but you simply tell them no, and yes, I have kids. They hear MUCH worse than that from their friends who have older siblings.

Aslut's problem is they don't know who Dante is...

Far as I know, unlike the MOB, nothing about Aslut hasn't been written up by the WSJ, NYT and Playboy for being entertaining... so why would we CARE what they think??

If The Mob tells a joke, and you don't think its funny... it's PROBABLY about you.

RE: Great show by the MOB
I was thinking the conversation from Tulsa fans might have gone more like this and been perfectly fine:

"What's a douchebag, mom?"
"It's a bad word... I don't want to hear you say it."
"Oh... Why did the man on the speaker say it?"
"Because he's a douchebag, hun."

The MOB halftime show was a true classic!

I, for one, hope that Tulsa fans whine and complain incessantly, especially to the NCAA or any other appropriate authorities. Then the show will get the publicity it deserves. No better way to keep it alive than to have mindless wits praddle on and on about it in the media, especially those calling for an official "investigation" or "sanction." The amount of reaction it has drawn is a testament to its value.

One of my favorites is the fact that several of asluT's fans think that they will be able to get the MOB disbanded with their complaints and that Chuck will need to find a new job (their poll is hilarious). The MOB has done far worse in the past, and we're still around today, and will continue to be so in the future.

Since it seemed to be tacked on at the end of an erudite and clever satire, I would have preferred that some other, less inflammatory synonym could have been used. For example, my son would not need an explanation if it were the even-more-infantile "poo butt." :-)

Slightly off-topic

Does anyone know if there is still an archive of the old owlzone site somewhere? This thread has sparked an interest in looking back through all of the commentary on MOB shows past, but the Parliament site seems to only have threads on this show, the U of H show from this year, and the UCF show from two years ago (the 'theme park' show).

Can't help with the Owlzone archive but we do have a semi-comprehensive archive on the '73 A&M show, including a Steve Jackson/Dana Blankenhorn Thresher story, a Mickey Herskowitz column, and some pix and background info/description of the show.

Go to

http://www.ricefootball.net/mob.htm

read that, and then click on "Her'es what happened..."

I was looking for slightly more recent than '73, but thanks!

I found an archive of owlzone on web.archive.org, but all it has are thread names - none of the threads or posts are present. I can tell from the thread names that there were quite a few comments on MOB shows in '03 and '04, though, and that's some of what I'm looking for.

Ah the famous A$M show. I always think of that when other schools complain about the MOB. you know, look at what they used to do (and get away with, barely).

The MOB has a script archive on their own website, too:
http://mob.rice.edu/history/scripts/

I *think* the archive has the final written scripts in it... last-last-minute changes might not be accounted for. (Chuck & MOBsters, speak up if I've got this wrong.) Occasionally, some of the writeups have notes about crowd reaction, things-that-got-misunderstood-but-here's-what-really-happened, etc.

RE: Great show by the MOB
Heh - I think I've made myself misunderstood.

I *am* a MOBster. I've seen all of the scripts. I've helped write some of the scripts. I'm also looking for ways to improve any future scripts that I work on. I didn't have much of a hand in this year's shows, but I'll probably be getting back into show writing next year. With the season over, we're looking for ways to improve the process.

What I'm looking for are the feedback threads from viewers - there are three that I've found on the NCAAbbs Parliament forums. This one, the one from this year's UH show, and the one from the '05 UCF show. I know there were quite a few on the old owlzone site, and I'm looking for archival copies of that commentary. We sometimes find that what we write and think will be funny isn't always what gets the laughs, and I'd like to look into that a bit.

Any thoughts on who might have the archived owlzone threads or know where they are?

In Tulsa, they think divine comedy is Larry the Cable Guy.

This shows you just how stupid Tulsa fans are. Everyone knows that the Naked Trucker and T-Bones is much funnier.

That guy was pretty worked up. I took a photo of someone on the Tulsa staff seemingly telling him to calm down.

The percussion was definitely great. I attended the game with my cousin, who is a HS percussionist and is applying to Rice, and he was impressed--particularly with the quads.

The whole MOB sounded great, and the show was a lot of fun. I took pictures...
