Akron's fans came out in very good numbers tonight. You're off the mark here.

I think Kent fans outnumbered Akron fans by a fair margin tonight, maybe 2 to 1.

I attended the game and Akron just laid a giant egg tonight, I can't explain it any other way. I'll give credit to Kent, they are a fine defensive team ,however the Zips had tons of really good looks that they simply did not convert. Kent implimented a version of the Hack-a-Shaq stratagy on Wood and that proved to be a brilliant move as he fired brick after brick from the stripe. It was an odd game because the Zips came out of the gate strong then looked like a deer in the headlights the final 30 minutes. Akron did a good job on Fisher, but got nothing from their big 3 seniors whom you think would be well poised in a setting like this. Very odd game indeed .

Hats off to Kent, just a fabulous season.

BTW: Akron will be playing in the post season. Not sure which tourney but the word came directly from Rick Chryst, who did not elaborate any further. I overheard that while chatting with a friend on press row after that game. Certainly, Miami and Western are also deserving with the added spots in the CBI.

OUBOBCATJOHN Wrote:Kent State blows Akron out of the building. Total dominating on national TV. That should get Kent State a great seed. Kent State should be a huge favorite next year as Williams, Pollitz and Wood all graduate from the contenders......make that the pretenders. Christian owns the rest of the MAC coaches. He gets better talent and motivates that talent and the players execute far better every nite. Until Christian moves on, Kent State will win championship after championship. Akron has a good coach who gets the most out of his team, but Kent State has far more talent and it showed tonite.
Kent State also loses Q and Mike Scott. They'll have good guard play but nothing down low at all, I just don't see Isaac Knight & Julian Sullinger as suitable full-time replacements down low but it's all they'll have as well as Brandon Parks, and these guys,BP & Knight, rarely played.

I don't think that was their plan at all, it just worked out that way. Kent State players were being whistled for nonsense calls anytime anybody got near him, he just couldn't knock 'em down.

BSU was a 9 seed in '89...

My memory could be foggy, but I belive EMU was an 8 or 9 when they beat Duke several years back.

btw, congrats to Kent. They're a solid team. Contrary to what other delusional people believe, they should be an 8 or 9. (Lunardi has them as a 9 right now). I think they'll get out of the first round but succomb to whichever #1 they face in the second round.
