Besides being Spring Break, just like last year, Miami will be hosting second round CCHA games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Last year the hockey team came within one win of going to the Frozen Four, this year we were ranked #1 for 8 weeks and are currently #4, so most fans find it much easier to just stay home and attend the playoff hockey games than to drive the 4 and a half hours to Cleveland. Almost every fan I talked to at our last basketball game was either going South for Spring Break or attending the hockey games.

The true fact is if at least two (Kent, Akron and OU) don't make the semifinals attenance will suffer. I would hate to see the attenance when they have a Eastern MI, Central MI, Northern IL and Toledo or Miami semifinal. Attenance should be great this year with Akron, Kent and OU.

i agree, especially if it's an OU-KSU semi-final. that will be played on friday night at 9:30, giving the OU and KSU fans time to hang out after work and then get ready to rumble!

and if it's an Akron-OU or (of course) an Akron-KSU final, the attendance should be near record levels. add to that the fact that there does not seem to be an impending blizzard on the horizon and it could be a great looking game on ESPN2 on Saturday night.

Hmmm...I don't get the putdowns on Miami. It's not like any MAC school has room to talk about attendance. It is definitely easier for Kent and Akron being 40 minutes away but everyone else is looking at a 2 hour drive, at least, to Cleveland.

With Miami having a tremendous year in hockey, it makes sense to me where their fans will be this weekend. Alhtough I do hope BG pulls the upset in the CCHA playoffs. 04-cheers

=>Only a total fruitcake would miss the MAC tourney in order go to a hauckie game.

BTW, it is statistically just as hard to make the NIT in basketball as it is to make the NCAA tourney in hauckie.

Being a top rated hauckie team is the same has being top rated in baseball. It is nice, but it should not take away from men's basketball.
