Agreed. What a huge shot when the momentum had shifted.

That was insane. Great shot by Fisher, he has ice water in his veins.

Hopefully the MAC can get two bids this year.

If Kent wins the MACC, wonder what seed they will get. I'm guessing #10. (Which by the way is preferable to the dreaded #8/#9 slots, whose winner almost assuredly plays #1).

Kent State's RPI is now up to 27. 04-rock

I would give them a 7 seed if they win the MAC tourney, a 10 if they lose.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
Here's what I'd say:
Lose in the Quarterfinals: 10, 11, or 12 seed. In for sure though.
Lose in the Semifinals: 8, 9, or 10 seed. Preferably a 10 though if were playing UNC or Kansas as the 1.
Lose in the Finals: 7, 8, or 9 seed. Hopefully 7, otherwise, an extremely tough second round matchup.
Win: 6 or 7 seed. Gives us a decent chance of making it at least to the sweet sixteen, maybe further.

That maybe is what should happen. The reality, though, is the seeding committee will look at it like this: "It's the MAC. Give them a 12 seed." Maybe if they are feeling extremely generous, an 11. If they were to get a 10 that would be an extremely good seed for a MAC team, historically.

I truly believe as Mix and Reghai said on the broadcast: (paraphrasing) Kent State needs to at least get to the finals to be assured of getting in to the dance, even though that is not how it should be. They said I don't believe that the 7th or 8th team from the ACC is better, no way.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
Mile High knows his MAC history. The NCAA committee will take Kent's RPI, divide by four, then ADD three. Today, it's (27/4) + 3 = 10 seed.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
Congrats to Kent.

I have to believe Kent is in the tournament.

They have 2 very good non-conference wins- both away from the MACC center.

They won the #12 league out right

RPI is 27- even with a loss shouldn't drop below 40

Laing Kennedy on the committee

Even if Kent loses in the first round- I think they are in!

As for seed- I agree with Okie Chip- the MAC never gets seeded well. The seed will be between 10-12.

Doug Gottlieb agrees. "Kent State is absolutely in. Watch the MAC tournament if you are a bubble team. If Kent loses, the MAC gets two teams in".

It pains me to say this but, I like Gottlieb's opinion.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
I've got to believe Kent is in at this point. If you look at the teams, there are about 37 teams that should be in (not including Kent). You figure the top 46 teams are getting in (assuming 3 upsets in conference tournaments), then there are about 9 teams that'll make it that are bubble teams, and almost everyone of those have much bigger problems than Kent (say, OSU and their 2-9 record against Top 50 and Dayton and their 8-8 in the A-10, Illinois St.'s 0-5 record against Top 50 (including a neutral site loss to Kent), etc.

Interesting Fact; Kent beat the second best team in 4 other mid-major conferences:
* Illinois St finished 2nd in the MVC and lost their tournament final
* Cleveland St. finished tied for 2nd in the Horizon and will play in their tournament final.
* George Mason finished 2nd in the CAA and will play in their tournament final
* St. Mary's finished 2nd in the WCC and look like they'll play in their tournament final (they're up 26-9 right now).

Gotta root against Cleveland State as Butler is a lock. This is the type of game has has to make Kent State nervous. They are not a lock if Memphis and Butler fail to win conference tournaments and a couple long shot win some power conference tournaments like a Minnesota, Oregon, TexasTech, Seton Hall or NC State. those are the kind of teams that kill the MAC. Can't have a team like Syracuse did that one year and go from a 9 seed and win the Big EAST.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
kent is 9-3 against the rpi top 100 and 13-3 against the rpi top 125 or so. which is among the best in the country. the only thing going against them is a couple bad road losses.

i think they get in regardless, unless there's a slew of conference tourney upsets.

they won't have an easy road. toledo or bg in first game (they lost to both). miami/ohio next. championship against western or akron, likely.

best bet for the mac, imo. is a close semi loss to miami. kent already beat them twice and i think miami is the mac's best hope beyond kent to pull off an ncaa tourney upset.

as for seedings... they won't get better than a 10 as an at large, probably an 11. and should be in the 8/9 game with a tourney title.

i don't think a mac team has ever worn a home jersey for a first round game since the tourney went to 64. eastern played duke as a 9 (and kicked their ass). ball st was like 28-3 one yr and got a 9 seed (and beat pitt). they were a 12 when they went sweer 16 (beat oregon st and gary payton, and then louisville, before missing losing to unlv (champs) by 2). kent was a 10 their elite 8 season.

kent matches up very well in a bubble discussion because they've played great against good teams. but they haven't beaten anyone who will be higher than a 9 seed so its tough to see them get seeded better than that.

I'd say right side of the bubble, like Illinois St. St. Mary's still has the big win over Drake, which will probably help if it comes down to St. Mary's vs. Villanova or Syracuse or OSU. VCU is probably wrong side of the bubble right now.

Right now, 16 bids (including the CAA) will go to teams with an RPI under 50.

Big games to keep the bubble as open as possible:
* South Alabama in the Sun Belt tournament.
* Davidson in the Southern Finals.
* Gonzaga in the WCC Finals.
* Butler in the Horizon Finals.

Congrats to Kent State for winning the title in dramatic fashion. I believe they are in the Dance regardless of what happens this week in Cleveland...they deserve it.

RE: Why we call Him "BIG SHOT AL"
illinois st lost to drake all 3 times they played

touch to compare a kent or illinois st to an osu or syracuse. the latter play lots of home games non conf and a rugged conf sched. the mid major powers play wicked non conf schedules and mediocre-pretty good conf games depending on if their league is up or down that yr.

i'd say osu is in with the 2 big late wins. florida is out unless they have a great run in the sec tourney. clearly, they are the exception in terms of getting some credit for previous seasons. syracuse probably gets in but i'm not sure they will deserve it. what about teams like maryland, virginia tech, oregon, mississippi st that got beat by good mid major comp out of league but had solid seasons in league play in top conferences. maryland is probably out, but most of these type schools probably get in.

kent matches up great against other mid majors but i don't know how they will be judged against the OSU, Arizona or Arkansas type programs
