Who says there's no passion in the MAC? Meanwhile, Kent is just about in meltdown mode. Will they have a repeat of what happened at Toledo?

That was NUTS.

Akron gets the steal, Wood burries the three. Kent flies down court, and Al Fisher nails a cold blooded dagger of a three, FTW.

61-58 Kent
FINAL

Fisher's shot saved them from a monumental meltdown. I couldn't believe that final minute and a half!

Expect more wild finishes in Cleveland. Happens every year.

With that heart-stopping victory, Kent has just about clinched an NCAA berth regardless of what they do in the MACC. The Flashes are now #30 RPI with victories over St Marys and Illinois State in their backpocket.

Correction: Realtime RPI just updated Kent to #27.

haha. What happened?
Apparently there was another terrible call by the refs and apparently went on the court to complain and the official called the police over to escort him off the court(the Huron radio guys seemed to think it was a bit much to call on the police). didn't hear or watch it. This is just what I have been told. Not sure why the police were needed. As for the SID, I have absolutely no clue. Maybe a Huron can comment further.

It appeared that the NIU coach was about to start swinging. What happened was one of the NIU assistant coaches was trying to hold back the coach and the coach took a swing at him trying to get him out of the way and he ended up almost getting the ref as well. Also, it appeared as if the coach was not leaving peacefully (refusing to leave) which is why I'm assuming the police were pulled onto the court.
Thanks. Can you describe the play that caused Patton to go off on the ref?

It was hard for me to see the call because there was a lot of traffic in front of the net. The call was made from the huddle of players off to the side of the basket. He stormed out onto the court in a hurry though. I didn't even see him leaving the bench. He was in the ref's face instantly.

Was at the game but just now getting a chance to post.

The Clyde pretty much nailed it. The ref, Sid Roecheffer, was correct in tossing Patton but was completely out of line in tossing NIU's Assistant SID. My understanding is that he (the assit SID) was on the phone at the scorer's table and the ref wanted to know who he was calling. When he was told, he told Matt to either put the phone down or he was out...so he tossed him!! Unreal.

The ref completely lost it and I hope that NIU files a report with the MAC. Completely overstepped his bounds.

Made for an eventful game though out of a blowout.

Kent State still needs to win its quarterfinal game to be safe. A few years back, Butler lost to the No. 8 seed in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament and was left out despite a decent RPI and I believe 25 wins. I wouldn't trust the NCAA selection committee if Kent were to lose in the quarters.

Given the historical disrespect from the seeding committee for the MAC I believe that to be safe, KSU needs to get to the finals.

With the Kent AD on the committee, there is no way the Flashes don't get in this year. They absolutely should anyway, don't get me wrong. But they have the best safety factor they could possibly hope to have.

the mac has been left out of the big dance so may times i would not take anything for granted.you may be right mike if kent loses the first game it would give the comittee a perfect excuse to leave kent out.
they will find anyway to let some big ten, acc, sec team in the big dance.i dont care want anyone says when it comes down to the few final selections the committe will take a team from the power conferences over a team in the mac.

Rumor has it Kelvin Sampson was texting him.

Unfortunately I was at the wrong end of press row and could not see the play that caused the whole thing.

I think he had enough after CMU game. I think he got tired of bad calls and cheap shots(not saying this was a cheap shot) on our players. I know there are always complaints about refs and it seems like we hardly ever get breaks(even under Judson). Oh one more question, what was the reason for the FT differential? I could see maybe fouling a lot late but being down that far down that it doesn't seem to make much sense. Were we not able to drive to the basket drawing fouls?
