The PGA event this weekend is being sponsored by a Chicago company. The name of the event is The Northern Trust Open. I ,and many NIU grads, work at Northern Trust. I have a mini helmet on top of my cubicle and people I don't know are always stopping to talk Huskie sports.

Anyway, the CEO is out at the tournament. I shot him an email this afternoon asking if any thought had been put into trying to obtain some NIU gear and seeing if any of the players might wear it over the weekend. I mentioned that many players did for Va Tech last year and I thought it would be a great gesture for Northern Trust to show its support for NIU.

Too my surprise, he responded from his blackberry while walking the course. He said he thought it was a great idea and would talk with the marketing VP to see if they could do something.

We'll see what happens, but I feel that NIU needs all the support it can get right now.

Out and about in DeKalb today there are red and black baloons on all the downtown light posts. People all over wearing red and black ribbons. NIU shirts all over.

On my way home there were kids just out of middle school for the day going home wearing NIU hoodies.

Whether we see anyone on TV, at least in DeKalb- we are not alone. Who knows- maybe we'll see NIU in surprising contexts.

The Rockford icehogs are also letting NIU students in free and the team is wearing Red jerseys. They are playing the Wolves on Saturday and I am thinking of going.

Just as a note to all considering going: The Ice Hogs aren't letting students in free Saturday night. The games that NIU students will be able to get into free are Sunday the 24th or Wednesday the 27th.

Did this get anywhere? I don't see anything on the PGA website. Might we expect to see any players wearing Huskie gear?

Not quite sure if anything will happen. It was just a thought I had yesterday at work. The CEO wouldn't know me from Adam but he did respond which was nice. I would think it would be difficult for them to get their hands on some NIU gear last minute. The tourny is in Los Angles so I am sure it wouldn't be easy.

I watched most of the tournament today and didn't see any NIU references - did anything come of this? Either way, it was still a great idea.
