You know you're from Toledo when you've eaten a Doritos Locos Taco. Finally, something I can add to this thread.

Ha! Good one. Haven't tried one myself but hope to become part of history this week.

I remember going to mass at Mt. Vernon before St. Jude's was finished. In the cornerstone of St. Jude's are all the first families' names. I was there when they did the dedication. I also remember the underpass under Byrne Road and we would yell and make echos under the street. I think they closed it up now, it might be a little scary these days.

The name of the restaurant east of Secor on Monroe St. was called the Granada Gardens. Their salad bar was in a boat, and the restrooms were labled Bouys and Gulls. The last time I ate there was September 1, 1974. It was the Sunday before Labor Day. The steaks just don't taste the same these days.

The restaurant was about 1/2 block west of Monroe on the east side of
Secor. Irv Shapiro ran it before he moved to the casino business in Vegas. My parents used the valet to park their new car and it took the Granada employees about 30 minutes to find it.

The whole city is like that.

I live in East Toledo, which is south of the primarily E-W Maumee River. the "South End" is west of the river and of town. The North End is north of the river but east of town. The suburb called Oregon is generally south of the part of town called Washington so that lends a little bit of sanity.

True. I always thought native's descriptions of Toledo were odd. But I do appreciate that I can drive from Oregon to Florida via Texas in 45 minutes. Getting south from Florida to New Hamphire adds another hour and three quarters.

Yes there was an airport on Telegraph Rd., long before the Drive-In, which was before the North Town Mall. You know you're from Toledo when you remember the "Colony Hut". That was the place for DeVil. HS. and Start, the motor heads went to the Lockwood Hut. Not that they're weren't some hot cars at the Colony.

I still can taste those White Burgers if I let my mind wander, still the best ever.

Who can forget "Toppers Potato Chips", geez those were the best, until Cain's came along. How about Salsibury Quarry (sp) did a lot of Scuba Diving out there.

How about the world's largest pool, we really had 2 of them, Bowman Pool at the west "Y", and if you were lucky enough to be a Boy Scout, and swim the frigid waters of that pool, it never warmed up, since it was in constant shade. That pool was huge.

Going to the Friday night dances at the West Y, and the "opens" at Ottawa Park, man you could feel the sexual tension pouring out of everyone.

Oh to be 16 again, huh. Of course up at Devil's Lake, going down to Perry's to get some ice cream, another place I can smell in my mind. And yes there was an airport at Franklin Park, and after it stopped, all the people who would go there on the weekends to fly their Radio Controlled airplanes. And for year the Clyde Beatty Circus would set up their "Big Tent", back in the days of real Lion Taming.

Too many memories to try to list at one time, anyone else remember my memories, I remember a lot of yours that have been listed.
