When it rains it pours
Broncos give up a goal :30 in and give up another just :19 after scoring their first and go into the 1st intermission down 3-1.
On an upnote, the CSTV gametracker has given Lawson a second tier of seating.

Kolarik with 4 goals on the night, Michigan up 5-1.
And with Lake State's 4-1 win over Bowling Green, Western hockey is finally in last place.

Rampant mediocrity being rewarded reaches it's logical ends.
Time for another contract extension, Kathy!!

I'm wondering (out loud now) if the extension was a way to get JC a buyout after this season.

You inferring they fine-tuned the buyout language in the contract? But this would have been JC's last season anyway under the old contract. I'm not getting your point.

Yeah, it was his last season, and everyone who watched this team knew going in that they weren't going to compete this year, including KB. No extension, he walks with nothing, so I was wondering if the extension had a buyout clause insuring JC some dough if he gets let go (taking care of your peeps so to speak).

I suppose that could be true. But 9 years is in and of itself quite a concession. It's a major part of most men's careers. If JC hasn't got a little salted away, he hasn't been doing any planning. It's been apparent the last 2-3 years this was coming.

You saw Wilks article, demand for college hockey coaches isn't high.
I wonder what the terms were, if there was in fact a buyout. That would make sense to me.

The problem I have with that is that WMU isn't a charity. We don't have oodles of free money lying around to give a guy a soft landing after almost a decade. The state economy sucks, and the budget situation at Western sucks. If there is a buyout, there are dozens of ways that money could have been better used in places in the athletic department that need it at WMU more then Culhane needed a free year of pay or whatever.

Kind of the way I feel. JC had 9 years of far-above-average income. If he hasn't salted something away he's not very good at planning for the future. Another year of buyout compensation based on his performance to date isn't justified in my book. Most of us would get 2 weeks severence and a how-de-do out the door!

jimmy's got an MBA from western and was smart enough to become an american citizen for the tax advantages. i'm pretty sure (or i really hope) he's done his homework and has planned for his post-wmu future.
