WAC conference
First of all, I just want to say I am an UCONN and Santa Clara U alum and I live in the Bay Area. I follow UCONN almost exclusively on both football and basketball. However, since I live in the Bay Area so I do follow some of the Bay Area college football teams.
I have been to MWC board lately and there have been a lot of talk regarding MWC taking Fresno St and/or Boise ST to the MWC.
My questions are:
1) Do Fresno and Boise want to move to MWC vs. building a better WAC? I am not sure I see the benefit of being in the WAC vs. MWC. For one thing, I know MWC's TV deal sucks.
2) What will happen to SJSU? I went to a few games in the past and there were no fans there. However, since Dick Tomey took over the team has improved. SJSU's latest victory over Stanford is a good start although Stanford really sucks this year. I would like to see SJSU do better in the area vs. Cal and Stanford. For one thing, there are plenty of CA talent and I am sure SJSU can get some. What conference would SJSU end up in if Boise and Fresno do leave? SJSU is not in a very good position.
3) UC Davis recently upgraded to D-1AA since I have a few UC Davis alum friends. Is there a chance these guys go D-1A and join the WAC?
4) What can WAC do? I know Santa Clara dropped football a few years back and has no plan to add it back. What other schools are there to add?
5) Would the remaining WAC schools go to Sunbelt?
I know Yoda proposed BE add Fresno but how is that possible?
Love to hear comments from you guys.

Boise State fans up to a couple months ago were eager to join the
MWC, no more, that conference is a complete mess, no TV contract, and BYU so mad at CSTV they are in the mood to get out. No, the WAC is
fine right now, the Broncos are really happy here and interested in building a better conference.
GO BRONCOS
GO WAC
PS Wonder if UCON would be interested in a home and home with
BSU, we had an experence with BC, never again, what a bunch of
ass holes.

As an UCONN fan, I would love to see UCONN playing some of the PAC-10 schools or schedule a series with BSU. I do want UCONN to recruit more out here in CA and TX. UCONN mainly recruits in NJ, PA, CT, NY, MD and FLA right now.
It would be nice BE schools make one trip out to the West each year. Have BSU contacted UCONN for a series? Usually, UCONN would throw in a basketball game if we are doing with another BCS program. We did it with Indiana. Some opponents on our future opponents for 1-1:
NC State
UNC
Virginia
Iowa
Indiana
Wake Forest
Iowa State
I would like to see a series with Cal, Stanford and UCLA. I don't mind a series with SJSU, BSU and both Oregon schools. We will give them a home appearance with our basketball program which usually is a national TV game.

1st thing is this. It is plain and simple talk by fans nothing more. The MWC commissioner and their presidents have said that they don't intend on expanding anytime soon. Posters can say what they want, but that is the extent of it. The league isn't even discussing it right now. Don't put a whole lot of stock into their discussions--seriously.
So in this strictly hypothetical situation, the WAC could possibly find some replacements from 1-AA. UC-Davis and Sacramento State could conceivably make the jump. But they aren't ready/willing to do it for now.
If Boise and/or Fresno's Presidents did get an invite, they would likely accept. However, both say that they are in the WAC now and want to build it. Bob Kustra (BSU's President) also said that the MWC has no real intention of expanding right now. So it is kind of dead issue at the moment.

CSU schools
Before SDSU, Fresno, or SJSU make a jump again, they will need to get the Chancellor of the entire system on board. Chancellor Reed has made it clear that he wants all three in the same conference. He was furious with Presdident Weller of SDSU for jumping and he won't be caught off guard again. He also just had his contract extended. Many posters look at sports as disconnected from their university systems. Sports are a tool of the universities to help them fulfill their missions. Look at what happened when the old Southwest Conference broke up and when Virginia's Governor intervened to force the ACC to take Virginia Tech. There are more that pure sports conditions to be weighed.

Any WAC school would switch to the MWC in a nano second if invited. Fortunately, the league doesn't appear to be interested in expanding soon.. There has been some scattered talk of adding one school to ease scheduling sports other than football but even that is remote at this time.

my take...
As a Nevada fan, I like the WAC. I think it's as good in football as the MWC or better....the difference being that our bottom teams (NMSU, SJSU, USU, Idaho) are worse than the MWC's bottom teams. I think tha will change though as all of those teams are making the switch from the Sun Belt (which should help recruiting) and they have some good coaches now.
In basketball, I think the WAC is a much better conference with USU, NMSU, FSU, Hawaii (most years) and of course Nevada has been on a tear.
I like the WAC.....I hope we all stay and kick the crap out of the MWC and Pac-10 every year.

Agreed. I think the WAC should focus on growing a CA based conference. SJSU, Fresno and SDSU would be good as a starter 3. You can add maybe UC Davis if they expand. There are other state unversity that can potentially go D1A.

I didn't hear that BYU was upset and all that, but they're not brave enough to go Independent...so their bite has no teeth.
They're just one of 9 teams in the MWC. No more, no less.
They're just a MWC team.

They are not happy with what has been going on with the CSTV especially since they can not rebroadcast the games on their own network or any local network when CSTV is carrying it. There are many MWC schools not happy but appears they are not fighting that much anymore and asking fans to take on the fight for them

As a Memphis Tigers fan I have to agree with the BYU people about CSTV. It is a joke.

tight california core
The future of the WAC ... around 2012 or so, not next year, calm down ... is a 10 team Western Athletic Conference based around a tight California core: Hawaii, San Jose State, Fresno State, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Nevada, Idaho, Boise State, Utah State, and New Mexico State. Before anyone says I forgot Louisiana Tech ... please be realistic ... every sane person is hoping deep down inside that they will have found a more geographically friendly home prior to six years from now.

They don't want to be part of the WAC and has repeatadly said they want to stay where they are and have turned the WAC down.
Plus I think if Montana comes they bring along Montana St also.
