I am one of the few on the board that thinks the program is going in the right direction. I think it is all a process. I just wish the university would do a little better of supporting its football program to put them on even footing with some of the other places in the PFL. I think the move to the Big South will eventually lead to scholarships. Don't get discourage by others and please see the good that can come from your son attending Campbell to play football next season. Hopefully every season will be a constant improvement.

I'm glad to find a few on board with the program and think it is going in the right direction! That's good news! My son had never heard of Campbell until one day in Jan he got a call from the recruiting coordinator. He had his mind up for some other opportunities. However, they did an excellent job of recruiting and convincing him to come there. Nobody could have done a better job. Now, I'm sure you guys and others are much closer to the program and school than I am, but 1st impressions go a long, long way! When my son came over for the January recruiting visit, I thought that it was a long-shot, because he would not be interested. However, he was hooked, and that was after visiting two other DI-aa programs as well. Not sure how the school could support the program much more than they have so far. Going from scratch to what they have today in such a short period is nothing short of a miracle. By the way, I was told during the spring game that a donor gave 3m to the football program to help complete the facilities.

My point exactly. The facility will not be completed until upper administration loosens the purse strings and lets the money be spent back in the program. I would love to see the facility completed sooner than later if only for the simple reason so it doesn't appear that coaching staff is misleading recruits with their pitch of facility that looks somewhat like the original drawings.

Why would you not have a crew on site Monday AM finishing the worlk and then some? In this economy I would think you would have your choice of contractors would love to do this project just to stay in business.

RE: Football Stadium
I hope they will get back to construction in the near future. I am sure it has been hard raising money in this economy and with all of the other building projects that Campbell has undertaken over the past few years. I would much rather have like to have seen the football field finished and then build the chapel. But it did not work that way.

I am a supporter of the program. I think the field is great but will be much better when finished. I think that it is going to take some years for the team to get better. I was impressed at thr Spring Game as they had made some improvements over the past year. The 1st half the offense of course was better. Was disappointed at how the offense fell apart in the second half though. That looked a lot like the prior year. My main complaint from last season was play calling on the part of the offensive coaching staff and poor blocking by the offensive line. It does not matter how good a quarterback you recruit, if the line does not do any better a job blocking this year as they did last year the quarterback will not last very long.

We need to understand that it is going to take some time for football to win. The coaching staff needs to use our assets and play away from the areas that we are weak. They need to play ball control football and keep the other team off of the field until we have the athletes to win. We might not win a lot of games but we want get beat by fifty points either and we may be in the game later against a few teams and have a change to win. Any of you who went to the Valpo game last year know what I am talking about. We would have been up at halftime, had absolutly ascinine play calling by the coach and offensive coordinator and ended up going into the half down and got blown out in the second half.

Hopefully this will improve this season. If not, then it will be time to consider replacing the head coach and offensive coordinator. I was impressed with Coach Steele when I met him as well but was not impressed with the play calling last year. That has to improve.

Great post Camelfan. I can't say I disagree with anything that was stated. This might be the best post I have ever read on the board!!!! It will take some time to get better and if the offense doesn't show at least some improvement I could see some changes made.

RE: Football Stadium
newcampbellman, believe me I've been very close to the program for the past 2 years and all I can say is boy have you got a lot to learn about college football at CU. Don't talk about CU football and SEC football and Vanderbilt in the same breath. Good luck to your son. I'm sure he's going to need it to enjoy football. On the positive side the University is great. I'm very proud to have a degree from CU, but the coaching staff leaves very much to be desired. You'll find out. Who knows, with your optimism, maybe you son's class will turn the program around.
Oh yes, about Campbell's "youth" Most of these starters are entering their 3rd year of exposure to college football. Youth is a lame excuse
Word of caution, don't believe everything you hear or see, you may get real disappointed.

RE: Football Stadium
camelfan, you are so correct on the offensive play calling. Honestly it broke all laws of common sense football. A decent coaching staff with the players they had wins 4 games last fall. They should have won fairly easily against the 3 D-3 schools and I saw one possibly 2 PFL games that were winnable, but you can 't coach stupid. Honestly it was more than I could bear at times, and the tell tell sign of coaching is when a decisive score occurred they just gave up the rest of the way.

RE: Football Stadium
newcampbellman good luck to your son he is definately going to need it playing football at CU. I am a parent of 3 kids 2 of which played D1 sports and the third will be my best athlete yet. I to have been through the recruiting process both as a player and parent of players. All coaches for the most part are great guys during the recruiting process and want to buddy up to the kid etc. Once they enroll all bets are off the gig is up and true colors emerge. Not to worry the recruiting process cool-aid that you and your family have been drinking will soon ware off. CU does not play competative football yet but hopefully will before your son finishes. I am friends with a couple of board members at CU and it is safe to say that not everyone was giddy about bringing the program back. That said I found it very interesting that the money for the program and facilities appearred pretty quickly when the basketball program was in such dire need of a new facility and the track team pretty much has no facilities. I am of the opinion that the football program was too quick to try and put a product on the field and should have gone the scholly route. What's done is done at this point so until things change it will be a rough road. By the way what other options from D1-AA programs did your son pass up to come to CU?

RE: Football Stadium
andone: I had no idea that some board member were against adding football at this point. That is enlightening and probably explains a thing or two. It sounds like, based on your comments, that they wanted to wait and make it a scholarship sport but only add it after a new track had been built and the new convocation had been up and running for a while. Is the above statement correct? I would love to hear more from you since you seem to have a perspective that not many on this board have and that is one with information and fact attached to it. How did they feel about the school going to the Big South? Have they talked about making football a scholarship program after a few years in the new conference?

RE: Football Stadium
I don't want to mislead anyone to think that I have some inside track. At the time this was all coming about I spoke to my board member friend and he mentioned that while football was voted back not everyone was as over joyed by the idea as others. Please don't get the idea that there is something else to this. I have not spoken to him since all of this has started and I have not talked with him about the Big South move. I think personally it makes all the sense in the world and what better opportunity to have scholarship football sooner than later. It is my personal opinion and nothing more when I say they fast tracked bringing football back when existing mens and womens sports had needs which should have been addressed long before football.

Okay, no problem. I was just looking for the inside dirt. The info you brought with you is more than most on the board did so I will take it as it is.
