The Old Sun Belt Conference - no football
back in the late seventies/early eighties, eight "basketball" schools banded together for the purpose of establishing a strong conference of like-minded schools to promote their basketball programs. Most have gone their separate ways, but most have one thing in common now - football...

this was put together by a wku fan on a Sun Belt board:

...7 of the 8 schools have started football programs, upgraded the programs they have had or are planning to start Football Programs.

Jacksonville 1AA
ODU Starting 1aa in 2009
UAB 1A
WKU 1A
USF 1A
USA Starting football 2009
UNCC Plans to start Football
VCU Students want Football , Adminstration Not

Even Georgia State that was an SBC Member at one time is starting
Football...
