USU qualifies several track athletes for nationals
The highlight of regionals was that they had a 1-2 finish in the 1,500 meters. Jennifer Twitchell who was rated 15th in the meet ended up winning the event edging out teammate Kirsten Guymon who finished 2nd. Other qualifiers for nationals from USU include, Amber Judd in the 400 hurdles, DJ Smith in the 100, Vance Twitchell in the steeplechase, Justin Wickard in the 110 hurdles, and Lacey Hulbertin the heptathlon.
The men finished in 12th place and the women finished 8th overall. USC dominated the men's competition finishing with 234 points while the 2nd place was BYU with 86.5. Stanford and USC tied at 94 in the women's track events.
I don't see any results posted on the WAC website yet, so I'm not sure how other WAC schools and athletes fared.

Hawaii only got 2 points? Sheesh. They're worse than our golf team.

Boise State
If those figures are correct then it's pretty amazing to me that Boise State qualified 14 athletes to go to the NCAA meet since Boise State only sent 16 athletes (total) to the West Regional tournament.
However, I frankly don't believe those figures. By my count a total of six athletes from Boise State qualified for the NCAA tournament. Not 14 as shown here.
1. Mattias Jons - 1st in the hammer throw
2. Simon Wardhaugh - 2nd in the hammer throw
3. Keron Francis - 1st in the men's javellin throw
4. Scott Viafore - 4th in the men's javelin throw
5. Eleni Kafourou - 2nd in the women's triple jump
6. Jackieann Morain - 3rd in the women's 400 meter dash
Now that I reread Bob Wilson's post (above) it seems to me he was saying that was how many qualifiers for each team there were for the Western Regional tournament......NOT the number of qualifiers for each WAC team that are going to the NCAA tournament. But that's not true either.....at least not for Boise State. Boise State sent 16 athletes to the West Region tournament.........not 14.
