Other than maybe the pitchers--I actually think that this was the best selected all-WAC team this year. Much better than the Football Selections and better than the BBall selections oo.

Wow. It sure didn't help to be among the conference offensive leaders.
Notable omissions (w/# of offensive categories ranked in the top 10):
Luke Hopkins (NMSU): 15 categories (#1 in 7 categories, including AVG and RBI)
Matt Bowman (Nevada): 13 categories (including #3 in AVG, #2 in HITS, #1 in HPG)
Adam Harvey (NMSU): 13 categories
Justin Frash (UH): 11 categories
Ryan Hamilton (La Tech): 10 categories (including #1 in HITS)

The problem is that you can't weight stats equally in this case. Certain WAC stadiums are more conducive to big stats than other WAC stadiums.
It is possible that the coaches did weight the final few weeks as more important than the season as a whole though.

Stadiums do make a difference, but you can only take that argument so far. Nevada, for example, ranked last in the WAC in hitting, despite playing in a "hitters" park.
IMO, Bowman got hosed. But to exclude Hopkins is a joke. Both ended the season hotter than hell, so weighting the end of the season more heavily doesn't explain it.
There were obviously some tough decisions. Heck, if you're using intangibles, why not boot Beau Mills for not taking care of the academic end? (He's been declard ineligible for the tournament, in case you haven't heard.)
I actually thought the pitching picks were pretty good, although I probably would have put Dewing on 1st team, and found a spot for Luke Burnett (LTU).

Too funny. . .I started thinking that it's probably weighted more heavily toward conference games, and on that basis it's understandable why Hopkins was left off. Then, I turned on the LaTech/Hawai'i web feed, and just as it started, the announcers were commenting that picks are based ENTIRELY on conference stats.
I still maintain Bowman got hosed (top 10 in 16 offensive categories, including #3 in runs, #5 in hits, #10 in RBI, tied for #5 in HR).
Oh, whoa is us! ;-)

What a complete joke. Luke Hopkins missed about 11 WAC games because of injury. Anyone who saw him play, coaches, players, or fans of other WAC teams would clearly see he is a first team selection. If he had stayed healthy he would have been player of the year.
To leave out Luke is a complete joke. This reminds me of NMSU being screwed out on the All-Sun Belt historic team or whatever because we were leaving the conference.
All conference awards are just for show anyway. If Luke decides to stay in school instead of turning pro I hope he comes out with a chip on his shoulder about this. I say hit 25 home runs and drive in 100 runs next year if he stays to just show the WAC what's what.
Of course there might be some BS excuse to leave him out of the all conference team again. This year it was because they went with stats from only WAC games and Luke missed most WAC games. What will be the excuse next year? NMSU has too much of a hitters friendly park?
