LeFevour for Heisman in 2008?
I’m one of LeFevour’s biggest fans and I think he can get short listed like Chad Pennington, Byron Leftwich and Colt Brennan…however in order for him to get a reasonable shot…he has to perform well against BCS competition and not just in the MAC. LeFevour played well in 2006 and had very good performances vs. BC, Kentucky, etc…however this year…vs. Kansas…Purdue (1st half) and Clemson…he looked very mediocre.

The college football world will never give LeFevour credit unless he performs well in the MCB this year and next year vs. Georgia, Purdue, etc.

I’m not sure why there was a big difference in LeFevour’s performances vs. BCS competition from this year to last, however no matter what…LeFevour has given CMU national recognition and will for the next two years.

I agree, I was having this conversation with a friend of mine the other day. He needs to not only follow up next year with another great season, but perform against the big boys. Omar Jacobs had a sick season four years ago but then had a mediocre season the following year. Also he hasn't even been a blip on the radar despite his record setting season. He needs a good showing in the MCB to get some hype for next season. Hell he couldn't even convince the idiots at rivals he was the best QB in the league.

Dan has the WR's, a great TE, and can run like crazy. If we can keep the OLine pipeline strong, he will perform against the BCS04-cheers

You know, the MAC won't see a Heisman winner in my lifetime, but that shouldn't stop our schools from promoting the heck out of our top players. LeFevour deserves the press next year, that's for sure.

I don't know. I never thought I'd see Missouri ranked number one in my lifetime...

Exactly. We have to get out of the "small time" mindset. The MAC is DIV1A or (Football Bowl Subdivision, or whatever....)

Who would have ever thought that we'd see a game between Kansas and Missouri being played for the #1 spot in the polls??? 04-jawdrop

If we have such a great TE in JJ Watt...then how come he hardly ever gets the ball? I'm sure we could have had a few more designed plays and threw him the ball allot more, which is what you would assume from such a highly recruited player. I watched allot of games this year and let me tell you...JJ was kept in to block about 85% of the time.

JJ has blocked his a$$ off this season and has done a great job...however I believe if we had a few more designed plays thrown his way...defenses would not know where to begin trying to defend our offense with guys like Brown and Anderson.

Let's a get an endzone section for Watt then. "Watt's Spot."

Of course, name selection will be a mind-numbingly slow and tedious process.

RE: LeFevour for Heisman in 2008?
I think that Dan is the most dangerous QB in the MAC in that he can hurt you with his arm or legs. Nate Davis might get more attention (like first team Rivals All MAC) but I believe that it is because he is more of a pro style, pocket passer QB. Not much demand in the NFL for a dual threat style QB.

For Dan to get any notice for the Heisman, however, not only does HE have to play well against BCS competition, but your TEAM must play well and really compete. You rarely hear of a Heisman candidate that plays on a lousy team or one that loses big.

If Dan throws for 400 yards and 3 TDs and runs for one or two but the team gets blown out by 30 he will not get any traction because of the old "it's just the MAC" argument. When the team pulls a BCS "upset" and Dan plays well, his name will start to be thrown around. Otherwise, he will be an afterthought, a "nice" QB that plays in the MAC.

They tried to go to Watt for a TD on one of the first drives in the MACCG but Dan was picked. I think there was a couple of other attempts in that game to go to him too. I think one was a catch and the other a drop. But it looked like there was an effort to get him involved. Maybe that's the secret plan for Ol Purdue.

RE: LeFevour for Heisman in 2008?
I have to chime in here.

The MACCG saw the TE wide open in the end zone, Dan looked but didn't throw. The next attempt was picked when Dan threw a rope trying to put it between two backers.

If it had been lofted, it would have been the 6'6" TE with a jump ball against a 5'9" safety in the end zone. One of Dan's few bad plays of the game.

No dropped balls from the TE position. One, out and out drop this year, can't remember who it was against. One incompletion I think against Kansas that maybe could have been caught but a linebacker deflected the ball just as it got to the TE.

The coaches made some good adjustments and stayed with what was working during the second half.

It did look like there were some attempts but mostly the TE was used for blocking when the spread bogged down.

I'm hoping the Purdue game sees us using a nice mixture of offensive sets and using all our weapons. I truly think we have the talent to make a good game of it this time.

J.J. dropped one against Miami but also caught one. He also dropped another one earlier in the season. I don't think it's so much a case of us ignoring the TE as it is the WR position being so talented this season. Plus, J.J. was a true freshman. He'll be used more as time goes on, but trying to force the ball to am inexperienced player, when there are so many talented options around him, strikes me as a bad idea. Besides, the offense ain't broke. Why try to fix it?

Just like I stated. One drop this season, the other was deflected by a linebacker.

The offense wasn't broke against Kansas?
The offense wasn't broke against Clemson?
The offense wasn't broke against NDSU?

OK!

Inexperienced players, HMMMMMMM, Dan last year, AB this year. OK

I didn't know this was JJ's first year playing football. Wow it's a good thing they didn't throw to him. He's probably just now understanding what the brown thing is that the quarterback is throwing around. Maybe Williams should have been starting this year at TE because he's experienced.

I get so sick of people justifying not using all the assets of a team. It makes no sense!
