I believe it's an issue of direct linking to an image instead of placing the image on a photobucket-type site. The site may have deleted the image.

another trick some sites use is instead of displaying a broken image it will replace it with a generic warning message in an image like "you are bad for hotlinking to a.com". Some sites take it even further, and replace the image with a disturbing image.
