Hoops Observations to Date
Here are some thoughts after seeing us against 3 weaker opponents

Strengths:
- Depth. This team is deeper and has more scoring options than any other team i remember
- Talent. we have a ton of it compared to the other MAC teams. I fully trust JC to mold it into what we are used to.
- McKee will keep teams honest and forced to guard the perimeter.
- Many options and fouls in the post.

Weaknesses:
- I dont know why as we have the same inside people but we struggled a little on the boards so far.
- PG. Fisher has great talent. But he has a score first mentality and will drive us crazy at times and we'll say he's a primo talent at other times. I trust JC and crew will corale him. We know what Mincy can do. One forgotten afterthought from last year was that Omni handled the ball quite a bit in clutch time and i think we will miss that immensely
- Depth. As mentioned will all these studs accept lessor roles for the good of the team? I trust JC will force them to play Kent State ball

I think these next 6 games will tell us alot about our team. 4-2 during that stretch i'd say is a success. I can't put my finger on it and maybe i'm not in to full hoops mode yet but i'm not feeling the togetherness of this team yet. I hope its just early and everyone is trying to find/define their roles and JC will mold it into a championship team.

Go Flashes & Happy Thanksgiving.

ksu315-

Right now, the team chemistry seems great. Time will tell if it continues, especially if we lose a few a guy or two feels we could have won if he had more minutes.

Did anyone else listen to Julian Sullinger's post game interview? He actually seemed annoyed with Bill Needle when Bill suggested that he contributed energy comming off the bench. Sully might be an assistant coach, as he went on to talk about the advatages of coming off the bench ( watching the flow, seeing the defensive tendencies, knowing who he would guard). It was almost like Sully preferred coming off the bench.

JS also went on to talk about the advantages of our depth, indicating the guys liked it because "they knew how much better their legs would feel in games 29, 30." Hhmmm, games 29 and 30 would be just around the MAC Championship and dance time.03-idea

As of today, the guys all seem bought into the depth and bench time as an advantage. Let's hope it stays that way through a long season.

Agreed. There are a couple guys that seem like they aren't content. I'm not sure if that is because they are new and tenative. Maybe once they feel comfortable, it will show a different attitude on the floor. For the most part, everyone is heads up.

Depth. This team is deeper and has more scoring options than any other team i remember

Maybe. Remember the 2002 team was deep. Huffman, Gates, Mitchell, Shaw, Thomas, Edwards, Gerwig, Haut, Bedford, Wilkins, Merritt. Athletically this team is superior but deeper and more scoring options. 05-stirthepot

McKee will keep teams honest and forced to guard the perimeter

Add Sherman and Woods to that statement. Possibly Singeltary. He shot it much better late in the season from deep last year. 04-rock

Depth. As mentioned will all these studs accept lessor roles for the good of the team?

I think so. You see guys ask to come out at times when they are winded. If they wanted more minutes they wouldn't do that. This act shows that they accept the team depth and they understand they won't sit long before coming back in. The only time I see reaction to coming out is when they do something wrong and JC pulls them earlier than normal. They want to stay in despite the mistake.

PG. Fisher has great talent. But he has a score first mentality and will drive us crazy at times and we'll say he's a primo talent at other times.

Score first, turnover second, try to score again and then when all else fails, shoot the ball. He struggles with the ball and isn't going to set a lot of people up. If he can calm down and get it up the floor, they will be fine. Mincy will handle the bulk of the ball pressure. Al simply needs to be the second option. A lot of their guys are creative and unselfish in the half court to set up teammates. He gives them a 5 on 5 offense which is needed. Having Mincy in close game when they need a bucket may be a problem at some point this season.

This weekend is going to be awesome. 02-13-banana

Everything looks good ,shooting % is the highest i can remember ,this weekend will tell us the story .... I think only OHIO and Miami can keep up with this team in the MAC , as deep as kent is ,the golden flashes should wear them out...i think the conf. champ. is a done deal.......... This weedend will answer the question , is this team a top 25 ? ..the only things that bothers me is 1: As much rebounding that this team will need as the competiton gets better Knight gets only about 10 minutes, and 2: The tall lumber including a well traveled and experinced player, in the bench , i just dont get this one ,i wish i was a reporter so i can ask ,WHY GABE?..oh well as i said before it must be a secret plan....03-lmfao04-cheers

I'm going to take a wild guess and say it had something to do with Spates. They were JUCO teammates last year and maybe JC thought it would seal the deal with Spates and taking a chance on a 7 footer might be worth the risk. Again, just my humble opinion and a wild guess.
