Uniform instant replay discussed at ESPN.com
Are there any rumblings that the WAC is going to instant replay besides this article? This article sounds like there isn't going to be much of a choice. IR is lame, and I completely blame Joe Pa and his whining for implementing it into college football. But I guess the WAC needs to keep up as well. 05-footinmouth

The WAC was not a fan of Instant Replay because it was felt that the "benefits" of the program weren't worth the "cost" of the program.

How much is "one" or "two" over-turned calls worth? How much is the "confirmation" of a call worth?

The estimated cost of Instant Replay was valued at $20,000 a game the last I checked.

In many cases, you're actually bringing in camera crews to film an un-televised game...just for "Instant Replay" purposes only.

Instant Replay increases the cost of ref-ing a game exponentially.

But, to answer your question. The WAC will fall in line with NCAA requirements and implement the program.

Where did you get the $20,000 per game cost?

Boise State had the IR going on for the Bowl game with Boston College.
The Broncos already show the replays on their big screen.
I think the hardship will be on the WAC members without the big screen.
Great benefit for the fans, however....

The SBC announced that it was going to use IR full-time beginning this Fall; it was used on an experimental basis last Fall.

http://www.sunbeltsports.org/

I suspect the WAC will adopt it also as the WAC and the SBC were the only two holdouts at the 1-A level.

I remember reading the 20k per cost game too. Probably in the Hawaii paper if me and Jedi remember it.

For games already televised (locally/regionally/nationally) it's not a big deal, but the problem is not all WAC games were televised.

WAC will have replay
Benson has already announced the WAC will have instant replay this year, although it "must still be approved by the conference's athletic directors and presidents." Anytime someone says, "we can't afford not to do it" twice in one conversation, I think it's a safe bet that there's a lot of pressure to get it done.

LINK: WAC will incorporate instant replay - Idaho Statesman 2/10/06

The proposed rule changes are interesting.

1) Halftime would be shortened from 20 to 15 minutes and the game clock would start when the ball is kicked off

I, for one, am pumped. I hated being mentioned with the sunbelt as the only conference that didn't have instant replay. This also opens the door for schools who don't have jumbotrons or videoboards to go ahead and get them...no, you don't have to have a video board to have instant replay, but you do have to have a production team. The cost of the production team can often exceed the ACTUAL cost of the video board. Advertisers will often cover the cost of the board.

So that would result in 5 less minutes of beer buying time? I disagree with this rule and I hope it is never enacted!

Yeah I don't like all those rule changes. Just put in instant replay and nothing else.
