RE: Coach of the Year?
Golden...he reached down into the grave and brought that program back to life....while starting in a new conference.
Montgomery is close behind though.

I can't give it to Shane unless we beat OU and guarantee a bowl berth. If we lose, give it to Turner Gill.

Give it to Butch Jones of CMU in that case!
Turner Gill did not beat Miami.

Cleveland Nick Wrote:Defensive POY
????
There are few, if any, dominate defensive linemen in the MAC like NIU's Larry English. He won Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the season, MAC Defensive Player of the Week, has 9.5 sacks on the season (tied for #1), has 16 tackles for loss (tied for #2), and will be drafted in the NFL after next season. He did all that this year despite having 7 defensive linemen next to him go out for the season and the only guy on our line to play in every game this season. Not saying that last year counts, but he was also the best defensive linemen last year as a sophomore as well. More sacks and tackles for loss than Dan Bazuin who was a 2nd Rd. draft pick.

Thanks for everyone's input. We've made our choices and plan to announce them tomorrow morning.
Def POY was a tough one too and our choice may come as a surprise.

RE: Coach of the Year?
Late entry
how about Eastern's Jeff Genyk???
Eastern was actually respectable this year even if they didn't post a winning season!

NIU freshmen safety Alex Kube? He's the leading freshmen tackler in the nation.

Quote:Northern Illinois freshman strong safety Alex Kube flew around Paul Stephens Field, pounding Navy's runners for a season and team-high 15 tackles. As the leading freshman tackler in the country, Kube raised his season total to 111 tackles.

Kube has had a tremendous season and, along with Buffalo's Davonte Shannon, was one of our finalists for Freshman of the Year.

I'm assuming there was a 3rd finalist for Freshman of the Year........maybe a wide receiver that made DB's look stupid quite often this year?

Golden. He'll get it done even more soon enough.
Montgomery close second, Gill in the discussion but didn't really do that much in a watered down league.
Next year will be a differant story.

Given that choice? Gill, no question.
Why Montgomery? I'm not feeling that. It's Miami. It's not that hard to win there.
My No. 2 pick would be Al Golden.
