If there's one sure way of making a fool of one's self, it's to rant and rave about other people not having a clue, while demonstrating a noticeable lack thereof.
NMSU is averaging over 6500 in attendance...and will probably blow right by Hawaii...possibly this year, but by next year, for sure. And while I'm not ready to concede the conference to them just yet, Theus is amassing a ton of talent. Their progress was impressive even before their 3-1 conference start, and at this point, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish ahead of Hawaii...this year.
The Southern Aggies sound like that are going to be scary good next year..... Good thing the Broncos beat them this year..... I expect thte whole WAC to elevate next year....
Nevada needs some competition....
I would like to think NMSU is a contender (at 3-1 in the WAC) this year, however the reality is NMSU is still a year away from making some real noise in the WAC. This year I will be content if the Aggies can finish in the middle of the conference. The next 5 games will be big. NMSU has to play at La. Tech then have a home-n-home with Nevada and Utah State (In my mind the two best teams in the WAC).
Although there is a lot of hype for NMSU next year, I think it is well warranted. Right now NMSU has the best practice squad in the conference. Of the four transfers (Peete, Hawkins, Steward, and Iti) sitting out, three of them (Peete, Hawkins, and Iti) were starters at there previous programs (Kansas State, Utah, and UNC Charlotte). And, the fourth (Steward) would have been if not for injury (Northern Colorado).
Next year, of the four returning starters (Ingram, Knauber, Fisher, and Nelson) only two of them (Ingram and Nelson) will probably stay starters.
Next year, I foresee this lineup;
Starter/Back Up
Elijah Ingram 6'0" 190 Sr./ Shawn Davis 5'11" 180 Sr.
Fred Peete 6'4" 200 Jr./Ted Knauber 6'3" 175 Sr.
Justin Hawkins 6'5" 220 Jr./ David Fisher 6'6" 220 Sr./Shon Caston 6'5" 200 Jr.
Tyrone Nelson 6'9" 210 Jr./Trei Steward 6'7" 245 Jr./Kevin Ford 6'8" 220 So.
Martin Iti 7'0" 240 Jr./Hatila Passos 6'10" 240 Jr./Supo Jegede 6'8" 220 Sr.
If you think NMSU pushes the tempo right now, wait until next year when the Aggies go 2-3 deep at each position (with size and athleticism).
GO NEW MAGS!!!
