RE: basketball showcase
I did go and was disappointed in the waste of time. Not many people there. Did not look like a D1 program event at all.

There was no scrimmage. It was only player introductions and a lay up drill that became a display of who could slam dunk. That was OK. I wanted to see who could shoot. BTW, they all can slam dunk, including Mincy.

Now, for the optimistic fan in me. The team physically looked like a legitimate D1 BB team. As I looked at the players we know, and projected about the new players, I said WOW. There is talent galore of this team. Even the big guys move like well coordinated athletes. I really like Dimaria. If this team has chemistry, look out.

What happen to Midnight Madness? It must have been too successful.

RE: basketball showcase
I will post a few pics from the event later this evening.

GFlash68 is correct. There was a lot of dunking but there wasn't a lot of other skills displayed. Things are much different in a game than in warm ups but a couple things I noticed.

Woods is freakishly athletic. I'm not sure I remember a player that could jam like he was doing. The one windmill was ridiculous. Massey and Scott are leapers but I'm not sure they have the strength to do that dunk.

Al Fisher had hops too for his size. He wasn't able to show his quickness but he appeared to be stronger and more athletic than Mincy.

Garcia was smooth in his layup drills. He was able to shoot with both hands. He caught the ball on the run. Like I said. Its much different in a game with defenders around but there potential.

Ike Knight looked strong and ready for a nice season.

Sullinger appeared to be in shape.

Singletary looked a little stronger.

We will see how all of it adds up on saturday.

RE: basketball showcase
my dad was there last night. here is his assesment... & a few pics!

Attended the player intro/drills last night. Drawings for tix to North
Carolina game, XBox 360, Ipod & other stuff/contests......mostly geared to students. Hyped up pep rally....pretty well attended.

Interesting .....had a good time talking to players following intros and
drills (lay ups, passing, 3pt shooting & dunks...+ highlight film from last season)....well done.

See attached photos with Mike Scott and new 7 ft center from Brazil, Gabe Garcia. Garcia looks like an athlete, well coordinated (unlike Edwards) with soft shot around basket. Nice guy....very
soft spoken and shy. Interested to see just how aggressive he may be in game situations.

Antonio Demaria looks like a player. Sullinger looks bigger and stronger. Scott will be team captain and emotional leader. Quantaince looks as goofy as ever but will have to pick up his scoring; seems to be basketballs version of Manny Ramirez....(Headband, white tights, arm bands , knee pads.... looks like Bob Marley ...

RE: basketball showcase
I attended and was also a little disappointed that they didnt scrimmage, but I figure they are probably so sick of playing eachother already that it doesnt really matter.

I was prepared for much less attendance(late time, week night, not a game). I didnt think there would be that many people there. guess it just depends on what your expectations are. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of students and the amount of energy they brought. Hopefully they will do this all year.

I too was impressed with the physical aspect of the players. Singletary, for a guy his size, can really jump. he threw down some powerful dunks jumping a good distance from the basket.

All I know right now is that we have some very good athletes. If any of them can shoot the ball this year we will be very good.

GO FLASHES!
