RE: Toledo Game Thread
If that is running up the score, then the only thing we could have done was take a knee in the 4th quarter. Would that have made you happy?

Expecting a team to just let up is never a good thing, as that can cause injuries. About all you can do is put in subs and run the ball more, which is what we did.

We threw the ball a whole four times in the 4th quarter with a true freshman QB who started the season as the 3rd string QB and was supposed to redshirt until injuries took out Opelt and Cochran. We ran the ball 16 times in the 4th quarter.

In the 3rd quarter we ran the ball 16 times, including the all four plays we had the ball in the final four minutes of the 3rd quarter, while throwing the ball just 9 times.

To break it down further:

1st Half
20 passes
27 rushes

2nd Half
13 passes
32 rushes

3rd quarter
9 passes
16 rushes

4th quarter
4 passes
16 rushes

This is my last post about this, because if you still believe we ran up the score on NIU then there is no help for you and you are just letting your emotions about how bad the game went for NIU get to you.

NIU threw the ball 32 times in this game and ran 56 times. Very similar numbers to Toledo's last night. However, NIU backup QB's threw the ball 14 times against Buffalo, showing that NIU never stopped throwing the ball despite a 45-0 lead at halftime.

I forgot about that game, if I remember there were alot of turnovers in that one. The thing Ill never forget about that game was the constant "who let the dogs out" arrghhh.

Ok you got me there RF

The only thing Ill throw out there is that NIU was in the midst of trying to rebuild a football program.

RE: Toledo Game Thread
From my view -- I see coach Tom as a guy who coaches to win -- who demands intensity -- from his team and himself -- who strategizes and sets up plays, doesn't just run the same plays and count on his players to "out-execute" or be physically better. He coaches every down and expects his players to play hard every down.

Sounds like a good coach to me.

Also, (as I said relating to NIU playing their back ups) Toledo's back ups deserve a chance to play also --- and that doesn't mean "go in and take a knee." They deserve a shot to actually play. It's the other team's job to stop them. Granted trick plays and calling time outs so you can tack one on at the end of a game are out of bounds (Toledo didn't do that, right?) but other than that, the back ups deserve a shot to play -- period.
