BIG PLAYS HIGHLIGHT BLUE-ORANGE SCRIMMAGE
by: Todd Miles (4/16/2004)

BOISE, Idaho – Big plays on offense, defense, and special teams highlighted the Blue-Orange game on Friday night at Bronco Stadium bringing an end to spring practice. The big question heading into the spring, who will start at quarterback when the season starts in the fall, is still the big question with both senior Mike Sanford and sophomore Jared Zabransky having big scrimmages in front of 7,500 fans at Bronco Stadium.

Sanford capped a strong spring by completing 9-of-12 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. Not to be outdone, Zabransky rallied after a pair of shakey scrimmages earlier in the spring to complete 9-of-11 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. Zabransky finished the Blue-Orange game with a 212.61 rating, while Sanford had a 211.69 rating.

Zabransky got thing going for the offense early in the scrimmage. He led the number-two offense on a touchdown drive on the first series of the scrimmage against the number-one offense. Zabransky capped the drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to freshman fullback Michael Lose.

The defense answered with the next scored. Colt Brooks picked off a Legedu Naanee pass and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown. The defense would finish with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Senior Gabe Franklin and freshman Rashaun Scott picked off the other two passes. Freshman Ashlei Nyong-Dunham led the team with seven tackles and a forced fumble.

7500 fans that is so cool.

Sanford sure looked comfortable in the pocket. He is much improved. I compare him to Rhode. Similiar skills. Remember that Rhode was undefeated as a starter.

Did you notice that most of the fans were wearing Orange too! School Spirit is really on the rise.
