Fifth Annual Silicon Valley Football Classic Officially Recertified; Bowl V Scheduled for December 30, 2004

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2004--The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Football Certification Subcommittee officially recertified the Silicon Valley Football Classic (SVFC) for the 2004-2005 season following a presentation in New Orleans last week by SVFC representatives.

The Subcommittee's action ensures another great match-up between the #3 ranked Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and the #7 ranked Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) teams. The Fifth Annual Silicon Valley Football Classic will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 8:00pm PST, and will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

Bowl V will be held at San Jose State University's (SJSU) Spartan Stadium, which recently underwent a major field renovation. In February, SJSU and the SVFC completed a $300,000 investment to improve field conditions, which included new turf and a better drainage system.

"The Silicon Valley Football Classic is thrilled to have so much support this early in the season," said Greg Jamison, SVFC Board Chairman. "With commitments from the NCAA, the WAC, the Pac-10 and ESPN, we are ready to move forward with our game plan."

Local support was a key factor in the Subcommittee's decision to recertify the SVFC. "The City of San Jose proudly reaffirmed its pledge to back the Bowl with civic resources," said Joe Guerra, Budget and Policy Director for Mayor Ron Gonzales, who led the presentation.

The Silicon Valley Football Classic was conceived in 2000 to form an NCAA Division IA Football Bowl in San Jose, California. That is good news. I was kind of concerned about the survival of the Silicon Bowl and SJS for that matter. This is good news for the WAC. And the WAC needs some positive news!!!!
