According to the story in the Idaho Statesman this morning Ryan Dinwiddie does NOT have a Free Agent contract with the Chicago Bears. None at all. All he has at this point is an OFFER TO TRYOUT with the Bears, i.e., the same as Tim Gilligan. The difference between the two is enormous.
It appears that Dinwiddie either misspoke, or flat out lied, or the Statesman staff misreported the facts initially. Either way it is extremely disappointing.
It also seems odd to me that Dinwiddie was quoted in a previous article in the paper as saying that he had received free agent offers from several other teams, including Carolina and Kansas City and Green Bay. If that is true, then why didn't he take one of those free agent offers, rather than opting to merely try out with a team (especially a team that DRAFTED a quarterback)?

Now that is confusing. The Bears Message Forum has a poster that reported that DinWiddie has a free agent contract with the Bears. Maybe RD's agent told him it was a contract when it was just a tryout.

I don't think RD lied about it, he was told what was going on by his agent. Sounds like maybe the Bears were a bit sleazy in this and if there were free agent contracts available elsewhere, I'd take them if I were him.
His stock dropped like a rock. He's so much better than many QB's that were drafted and he can't get more than a tryout? CFL, here he comes, sadly.

Looks like the Bears have received permission from the Browns to talk to Tim Couch.

I think RD could be the top quarterback in the CFL. Size seems to be less of an issue there. Flutie was 5'7" and he was the best quarterback in the CFL and returned to do well in the NFL. Going to the CFL could be the best thing for Ryan.
But I am a little annoyed with the Bears. What is this couch deal? Apparently they don't have faith in any of the quarterbacks.

I understand and appreciate your sarcasm.........however, ESPN also reported Dinwiddie as having signed a Free Agent contract with the Bears.

from the way they were talking on ist yesterday, rd and his family understood his agent to say he had a contract. they are very disappointed with what has happened. old may dawson came on and said he talked to rd and rd told him it was a contract. i think it was the agent that misspoke or misslead rd. when they talked to forsey and johnsons agent, and he was telling them about rd's agent, it didnt sound like rd made the best choice of an agent. but thats just what i got from listening to ist yesterday.
