Quick look at Northern Illinois hoops
http://lwillhite.wordpress.com/2007/10/1...ois-hoops/

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Quote:Ricardo Patton’s first Huskies squad starts official practice at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. It figures to be a wild 27 days of preparation leading up to NIU’s season opener Nov. 9 at Northern Iowa.

After all, he needs to sort out the 17 healthy and eligible guys on the roster — most of whom have never played a minute of Division I basketball.

“I think I have an idea of what guys’ skill levels are,” Patton said Wednesday. “But it’s a matter now of putting them through game-like situations, pressure-like situations. We’re looking in our practices every day to create game-type pressure.”

Here’s how NIU’s roster breaks down by class:
SENIORS:
G Ryan Paradise 10.1 ppg in 2006-07
G/F Zach Pancratz 8.9 ppg (redshirting after left shoulder surgery)
F Shaun Logan 7.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg
G/F Ben Rand 4.9 ppg
F Egan Grafel 1.8 ppg
F Michael Hart Walk-on averaged 7.7 ppg at Div. III Carthage in ‘05-06

JUNIORS:
F Sean Smith 13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg at Vincennes JC in ‘06-07
G Jarvis Nichols Redshirt last year (dropped to walk-on this year)

SOPHOMORES:
G Cody Yelder 9.8 ppg, 1.9 apg
F Bristan Kelley 2.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg
F Najul Ervin 4.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg at Kankakee CC in ‘06-07
C Sean Kowal Colorado transfer (0.7 ppg, 1.4 rpg) must sit out this year
G Richard Oruche 0.8 ppg (walk-on)

FRESHMEN:
G Jake Anderson Non-qualifier last year; should be big contributor
G Jeremy Landers Strong scorer and on-ball defender
F Darrius Gaters Redshirted last year
G Michael Patton Legit point-guard candidate (walk-on)
C Michael Fakuade Von Steuben walk-on played in Public League all-star game
F Lee Fisher Thornridge walk-on averaged 13.4 ppg and 12.1 rpg

2008 RECRUITS:

G Mike Dinunno Von Steuben senior replaces Paradise’s shooting
F Tyler Storm Geneseo product a 3-star prospect per Rivals

2009 RECRUITS
F Steven Walker Originally at Thornwood, now at Simeon

Is yelder still around.

Some people have been saying he isn't on this board, but that is the only place I have heard it. Everyone else I talk to seems to think he has shown up on saturday.

Any real word on him?

An article from the Daily Chronicle seemed to indicate he was still on the team. He's still on our roster as well. If he left then it must have been very recent.

I saw Michael Hart @ the rec and he benches 250+. He could make James Hughes his b*tch any day of the week.

I think Hart will start or be a the first one off the bench.

Nichols is our best shooter and i'm surprised he is still around now being a walk on.

Yelder what i have been told is happy and is still on the team he had a problem in the off season but is fine now.

I have heard that from a few people. But 7 is steadfast in saying Yelder isn't on the team. 7 is pretty good with his info, I guess that's the only reason i'm in doubt.

Why was Nichols busted down to walk on?

This is great news! Now, let's hope he gets enough PT. This further supports my contention that we will surprise many people this year. I'm getting wet with anticipation for Huskie BB all over again!! 02-13-banana

I know who u are talking about. He's ALWAYS at the rec. He's got the prototypical bball body. Tall, lean, and built.

RE: Quick look at Northern Illinois hoops
it is sad that last year Nichols was on the team with a ship and since Judson loved Pancratz pardise and rand he made him redshirt because he woun't get any playing time even though is as good a shooter and dribbler as paradise. Nichols will beat out Pardise this year and pancratz next year. and he was droped to a walk-on

Judson screw so many players it not even funny.

I sure hope that the Athletics Dept. goes all out to promote Huskie basketball this year. You will never find a better entertainment bargain. For a mere $5, you can get a great upper bowl seat. Tickets in the lower bowl cost only $9. How can you beat this? Plus, there may be a couple games where the price will be reduced and/or include some deal like hot dogs and drinks. On top of this, those of us in the HASF 110% Club got a certificate for 2 free lower bowl tickets. Is there a more economic way to get out of the cold and enjoy some excitement on a cold winter day or night? I think not!

if you are really a cheap sob it's easy to buy an upper bowl tix and sit in lower bowl ten minutes into the game.

Then Patton let him back on because hwas nowhere to be seen for a couple months after his hiring.

I hope you are right.
