San Jose had USU's number, pretty much throughout the PCAA/BWC years for both schools. The Fresno series, OTOH, was very tight from '78 forward (7-8-1). Here is how it went:

78: 45-22 (@ Logan 15,570)
79: 41-31 (@ Fresno 8,957)

80: 14-0 (@ Fresno 10,428)
81: 20-0 (@ Logan 13,086)
82: 6-31 (@ Fresno 25,174)
83: 20-12 (@ Logan 10,179)
84: 18-43 (@ Fresno 31,463)
85: 19-38 (@ Logan 10,702)
86: 7-14 (@ Fresno 34,381)
87: 17-13 (@ Logan 8,281)
88: 10-51 (@ Fresno 34,942)
89: 7-34 (@ Logan 13,137)

90: 24-24 (@ Fresno 33,519)
91: 20-19 (@ Logan 9,814)
92: DNP
93: 14-30 (@ Fresno 41,031)
94: DNP
95: DNP
96: DNP
97: DNP
98: DNP
99: DNP

00: DNP
01: 21-70 (@ Fresno 42,881)
02: DNP
03: DNP

The 80s were interesting: USU was tanking while Fresno was making a huge jump up. Fresno's WAC jump didn't make much of a difference in the relative strengths of the programs, but when the BWC tanked, so did the Ags' program, even to worse levels than the worse years of the 80s (except one -- '84). Fresno started out a decent enough draw in Logan, then went way down. I suspect that'll change a lot -- we have tons of Cal students in Logan. A bit of the ol' home town should help with student interest (which tanked last year playing a Sun Belt sked).

This will be a great series. May take us a bit to catch up, but then, watch out!

GOAGS! 04-cheers

Please remove the multiples -- my 'puter went nuts on me for a minute.

Could it be the Bagel virus I picked up a few days ago?

Aggie attendance was terrible compared to Fresno. It must improve if USU is to be a viable member of the WAC.

You're quite right. USU went down while Fresno took off, both in attendance and on-the-field product after Fresno left for the WAC. USU, however, improved its home attendance quite a bit since then, as these numbers show (I round off to the nearest 1,000) with home record in parenthesis:

92 (3-2): 15,000!*
93 (3-2): 20,000*xz
94 (1-4): 18,000*
95 (2-4): 15,000*
96 (4-2): 22,000*x
97 (3-2): 19,000*xz
98 (2-4): 14,000*
99 (2-3): 17,000*
00 (3-2): 20,000*
01 (3-2): 22,000+
02 (3-2): 21,000+
03 (3-2): 15,000**

Overall during the 93-03 period, attendance averaged over 18K. Ironically, the best 2-year attendance run in USU history came after the BWC dropped FB and prior to USU's SBC association, with about a 21.5K average.

With Nevada (always a good draw), San Jose (usually a good draw) and Boazy (always a good draw) now back in the Logan rotation, along with probable good draws Fresno & the 'Bows, as well as our southron swine in OOC every other year for guaranteed sellouts, USU will probably jump up to around 23-26K average right off the bat in the WAC. Alas, Idaho and the NewMags haven't been good draws in Logan. Maybe that changes. Let's hope it does.

! = prior to installation of lights
x = non-losing season
z = bowl season
* = BWC year
** = SBC year
