RE: Central Won't Play Mississippi State
I do agree that we still can and should do more within our MAC budget. Rao will continue to tie our AD's hands are on athletics spending. I'm not saying getting a share of the BC$ pie would solve all of our problems, but is sure would allow us to do alot more to promote and enhance our programs. At a minimum, it would allow us to keep our coaches.
I still think what NIU did with Iowa is worth looking at. They sold out Soldier Field vs. Iowa and made a profit doing it. Like I said with Kelly Shorts, even if you can sell the place out at $25 a ticket, you only come up with $750,000 gross, which is usually close to what most BCS schools want to visit your campus. By the time you subtract out expenses, you end up deep in the red.
However, If we could negotiate a 1 and 1 for an equal payment amount both ways, I'd say we'd be fools not to. I would have to see the details and figures of the MSU deal before I could offer a fair commentary. The article doesn't say how much money MSU was willing to give us for visiting and more importantly how much they wanted to come to Mt. Pleasant.

RE: Central Won't Play Mississippi State
I tried to scan the entire thread.
It seems true that most MAC teams are required by need to schedule a game like UGa to help make ends meet. I'd guess a game like that would net say 500K. (that seems to be the going rate).
As HorseGlue is suggesting (I think) that only schools like NIU (games at Soldier Field), UT (with the OSU game in CLE), Temple with the Penn. State game at the Linc can really make a buck on a game vs. a BCS team.
Breaking even on a BCS home game played on campus isn't good enough.
All of these games will be helped by half or more of the tixs bought by the Big Ten school's fans.
The games need to be at a NFL stadium.
What CMU needs to study is whether or not they could make a go of a Ford Field game. Could CMU hit a financial home run????
Would a school like Penn State be willing to do a 2 for 1 with the 1 at Ford Field? How many PSU fans would show? Would the game draw at least 50K with tixs priced at say 50 bucks each???
