ISU I would accept that from, but not Liberty.

(Although had he said, "We're about equal to them." I probably would not dispute.)

Jennings had almost as many yards as Parmale and it is a game Liberty could have won so I guess I can see where he is coming from, but the yardage and TOP do not favor that positoin. Still with even almost twice the yardage and twice the TOP the game was close because of turnovers and untimely penalties.

The better team does'nt cough up a double digit lead in the fourth quarter. We stink but we're better than Liberty. At least one point better.

The same argument that others used on us when playing more well known opponents applies to this game. This was their bowl game, their one chance to rise above. (although beating a team as injured as we are shouldn't be much of a trophy) For our team, it was about breaking-in a true freshman QB, hoping to improve a decimated defense and just trying not to let a 1-AA team embarrass us.

Because of that, they hit the field pumped up and excited and we were very flat emotionally.

I hope some more of our players learn from their example. Every 1-A player should be excited to step on to the field, no matter who the opponent is.

RE: "We're better than them. We know we are."
After a little research, I found out a bit about Jennings:

Rashad Jennings' nickname was "franchise" when he played for Pitt in 2005. Rumor has it, he possibly transferred because Pitt wanted him to play fullback instead of running back although he cited family issues.

This is what Scout had to say about him:
Quote:Rashad Jennings (*Fr.) Jennings (6-1/235) has the prototypical size for the one back sets Cavanaugh will use throughout the season. He is a power runner in the mold of former Panther Kevan Barlow. A true load of a runningback, capable of wearing the opposing defense down over the course of a game. Jennings, a former two-time first team All-Virginia (Division 2), enrolled at Pittsburgh in January and will have true freshman eligibility for the 2005 season (five years to play four seasons).

He is a 1-A quality player on a 1-AA team.

the time of possession was really the key

Liberty just got worn down by the fourth quarter.

And it felt really hot out there. I wore jeans and wish I would have worn shorts instead!

While Jennings had a great night, and he's a hell of a back, the stats don't bear him out. Toledo led every major stat by a large margin. If anything, the margin of victory should have been larger, just looking at stats. I know too that stats don't win games, points do, and in that regard, he's got a point.

Karl,

I posted these stats in the game thread. Liberty had fewer yards but their average start was from the 41.

Interesting stats of the night.

BAD:
Toledo penalties 10 for 88 yards.
Toledo 2 Turnovers, one of which costs us 7 points.
Liberty's average start was on the 41 yard line.

GOOD:
Liberty 53 offensive plays (including punts)
Toledo 79 offensive plays (including punts)
Toledo 12-15 on 3rd down.
Toledo with 493 yds on offense.
Toledo with only 1 punt.
Liberty only had 282 yds of offense.
Toledo Time of Possession: 36:18

Yet somehow Toledo manages to win by only 1 point. Very strange game.

I agree. You could see their defense tiring and giving up yards. Also the Rockets decided to start playing Toledo style football in the 4th quarter when they realized they were about to receive the ultimate humiliation in losing to a 1AA team in the Glass Bowl.

That weather was the strangest thing. I found it warm, but very tolerable, until about 10 minutes before game time when it seemed like a wave of high humidity poured in and made it almost unbearable. I saw people fanning themselves outside. Even when the sun went down it stayed warm and humid. That was as bad, if not worse, than any day the entire summer IMO.

Agree. I didn't mean to "lift" those, but they're included here.

There were a number of I-A transfers on Liberty.Pinigis and Redd had been starters for UVa.Hicks was a Va.Tech transfer. There a few more.
Hicks and Redd were Top 20 player in HS according to Super Prep.
Among the DB's ,the worst credentials was being 2nd Team All State in Florida.

That's a good plan, but "other people's t-shirts" look just like any other t-shirts to the untrained eye 02-13-banana

Good point - I included this type of info in "My View" pre-game analysis. What I didn't include, and this is where Liberty currently IS BETTER than UT, is their Williams Football Operations Center.
