Ryan Garko has really been one of the big 'turnaround' players for the tribe this year. He was your typical AL hitter and was awesome. He hit consistently well the whole season and was what that lineup really needed, especially with hafner have a subpar season and sizemore only hitting .277. Carmona was the other 'turnaround' guy.

I noticed victor martinez had 25 HR's as a catcher. He did it in a hitter's park with the DH and it was considered a great season (which it is), but it got me thinking about how great Mike Piazza was. He hit .315-.340 with at least 30 HR's in Chavez Ravine and Shea. Not to mention he didn't have the benefit of using the DH as a day off.

Just noticed that Kenny drove in 2 with a single up the middle. It's amazing how there was no doubt that kenny would get a hit. He's an amazingly clutch player. It's funny how he's gotten a ton of 1 year contracts lately, because none of them want to be the team that has him for 3 years when he finally gets old. If the Giants had signed him to a five year deal after 2002, we'd have solved a lot of problems, but i guess the same thing can be said for a lot of teams.

Did you look to see how many games Victor has logged at DH this year before making that comment? You might want to, I think you'll be surprised...

Your a guy who goes by the OPS. Sizemore was in the top 5 in CF's in MLB this year. He had the second highest OBP next to Ichiro in the AL and 3rd highest in baseball if Willits for the Dodgers plays CF, if not, he's in the top 2 in baseball. His average may not look great but your leadoff guy just needs to get on base and his .390 OBP is exactly that, he's getting on base, it may not be by hits, but he's getting on base. Hafner had a subpar year and still had 100 rbi's.

This team wouldn't be where it is today without Cabrera, he solidified the whole lineup, gave us a legit #2 hitter allowing us to put Blake in the 9 hole where he belongs.

don't misunderstand me, i'm not trying to take anything away from victor, he's one of the best in baseball. i'm just trying to show piazza's greatness.

same thing with sizemore. he's an excellent player, but i'm sick of everyone talking about him like he's he's willie mays jr.

flyingswoosh Wrote:another observation: the coverage on TBS has been excellent. All 4 announcing crews have been excellent. Gwynn, caray and stone have done on a good job in their respective roles.

Amazingly enough they had one angle of Damon's HR last night, ONE! All these people griping about instant replay should be aware of this. What would ONE angle have done if we had IR. Not much...

RE: Official Playoff Thread
yeah, keep telling me how pettitte's not a great postseason pitcher. leadoff triple to sizemore and then retires the next 3 guys on 7 pitches, striking out hafner and martinez. He looks incredible. Carmona doesn't look too bad either. Nothing like watching real baseball, not like that garbage in the senior circuit.

The Yankees are toast when Mariano is done, probably in the 11th.

overrated doesn't mean you're bad. Even the best players can be overrated. i think you're taking what i said out of context.
