The University of Montana was ranked as the 25th best place to experience college football, in Sports Illustrated's "On Campus" issue that came out this week.

I think there is 117 Div. 1A schools and 121 1AA schools. 238 Div. 1 schools. Damn #25!

Congratulations!
I am a long time Griz fan.
Their game against Sam Houston was on at the same time as the Bronco game at our local Pub. Had several groups of Griz fans watching there. Disappointed to see the loss. Both Boise State and Montana started slow against Texas teams, but Boise State recovered.

Great as a native of the Missoula area I would love to see the Griz move to the WAC. I would really love to see the Griz in the same conference as my USU Aggies. Great atmosphere at Washington-Grizzly for sure. I wish the "it can't be done here" crowd at UM would give D1-A and the WAC a chance. The WAC would be good for the entirety of the University of Montana athletics including football.

The WAC would benefit with the addition of a solid WESTERN school. With Montana added and the MWC dumb addition of TCU we as a conference would be safe (New Mexico and TCU will push for anthother TX school the next round of expansion). Find a home for La Tech and the WAC is really on its way as a solid league that will really give the MWC a run for its money.

Big Sky Griz, what are you hearing regarding the Griz and the WAC? I have wondered if the hiring of Don Read as AD is in preparation of a move to 1-a. I think the thinking is he is the one that could increas fund raising to bring down the budget shortfall and his popularity could get the 1-aa diehards behind a move to 1-a. Especially when he says he plans to be AD for only a couple of years. It does seem that more and more Griz fans are realizing that UM is 1-a material and that rubbing elbows with fans of other schools who are as dedicated as they are would be fun.

Here is to hoping that Montana and Utah State resume thier long running (although long on hold) series as WAC games in the next few years.

Bronco Bob, do you think it would be possible to have a UM Grizzly logo attached? I think it would be good for our Griz fan guests and might encourage more to post.
Thanks.

The Big Sky Conference is expanding, that's as much information as is available at this time. There is rumor that a couple schools might leave and that has the Conference scrambling to expand. It's all kept very hush hush. Sac. State has been rumored to have thoughts of either going 1A or joining the Big West and GWFC. Portland State fans have said if Sac. leaves they are gone too. Who knows what's going on.

As far as our fans, 3 years ago it would have been 80% against going 1A. Today it's 50-50.

Rumours, that is what message boards are all about..........

Reno, Idaho and Boise State were some of the best rivals to Montana in the old Big Sky. It would make sense for Montana to rejoin that group some day.

Portland State and SAC State both have publicly made statements about moving to d1a in the future. Fullerton wants the Big Sky to have at least 10 teams in case 2 teams do leave.

If Montana and MSU left the Big Sky, would the conference have to chance their name?

Montana = Big Sky Country!

If Sac State and Portland State leave the Big Sky to go to 1-a, I don't see the WAC adding them. The WAC would take Montana in a heart beat. I don't think we want Sac State or Portland State, we would have another San Jose State in the making.

Utah State proved a couple years ago that being a western 1-a Independent is unpracticle and almost impossible these days.

If it is Sac and Portland I don't see the WAC taking them. There is rumor on the Utah State board that the U of Montana AD confirmed rumors that Montana is going to 1-a, and I would assume the WAC. I hope it is true.
