It's one thing not to want to play at Holy Cross. It's another thing to force them out of your bracket. It's a meaningless game anyway.

I don't agree with it either. UCONN do play teams around the state annually but they are boring and pretty much blowouts. I think Holy Cross would be a good test but I guess 1st game could be dangerous with their back court that has been playing together for years.

1. It's not fair to the fans.
2. According to the article, it would have been a potential second round matchup. Instead, Husky fans will now get to see Morgan State in the first game and the winner of Buffalo and Ohio Valley in the second game.

If that is true that is bush. If you're a national program you play that team. You play anybody any place any time. UC was in a major rebuilding mode last year and could have talked Memphis into pushing back the game a year I'm sure. Instead UC manned up and played them. We got our asses kicked like you wouldn't believe in front of the world but you take an ass kicking like that like a man. Don't run from a team under the guise of "building confidence". Coach Calhoun is better then that.

He ducks teams that would cost him if they lose, even if they are heavy favorites. Only reason he ever played UMass was because he had to prove he had the best team in New England.

Oh I have no doubt Calipari would pull strings too if needed.
He'd make sure Memphis played the best team invited.
Didn't Calhoun try something like this last year with the scheduling?
Regardless, I've never shared the animosity UConn fans have for our
coach. But I also have never had respect for Calhoun.
Thing is, it's still HOLY CROSS he ducked!! Jeeeesh!!

Dude - Calhoun has asked Duke to do a home-and-home and they chickened out. Calhoun also asked Kentucky so that's coming. We just finished 4 game series with UNC. We also have played Arizona in the past. I doubt he is ducking anyone.
The Holy Cross game is pretty much no win situation. I agree UCONN needs to play Holy Cross but it really is a no-win situation for UCONN as 2nd game of the season.

Duke is not a good example, but they do play Holy Cross! But seriously, I just don't understand; it's a tournament, play 'em if they make it that far! Home and homes are for big time teams, like the ones you mentioned. He stills ducks local teams that could tarnish his supreme New England status. Providence beat him a couple years back and it was like the biggest deal; then again, he has to play them.

It is not like UCONN can't roll Holy Cross. I guess after one of the worst UCONN seasons ever, he wants to make sure his team is ready and he does not want to ruin his team by running into an experienced team in Holy Cross. I wish it was someone else like Kansas or something vs. Holy Cross. UCONN has to get better this year. We are one year older. Who really knows what happened. Most UCONN fans don't agree with this either.
UCONN does play local teams in Yale, Central CT, Quinpennic and last year University of Bridgeport. UCONN also played University of Hartford before. However, most of these games are blow outs so it is pretty boring for the fans. I don't have a problem if we play UNC, Duke, UCLA and Kansas week in and week out.
