Rather unusual for him to resign on Christmas night, but that seems to be the time of his choosing. Phillips' resignation is effective immediately. Assistant coach Pooh Williamson, TU alum and point guard on the 1994 and 1995 Sweet 16 teams, will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Phillips has been offered a position as asst. AD.

To anyone who has followed TU basketball the past year, this news comes as no surprise (other than the timing). It was inevitable, and I'm glad it happened sooner rather than later and that it occured in a classy manner.

Thought you guys would be curious. TU plays Oklahoma in OKC on Tuesday night, then opens WAC play at home against La Tech on Thursday.

Always sad to a coach leave the profession. At least Tulsa had the class to take care of him in another position.

John Phillips was the only WAC representative to vote in the Coaches Poll. Who's going to replace him?

I don't know why he was selected in the first place, since Tulsa was leaving the WAC next year anyway. Whoever takes over, he should be from a school that's will still be in the WAC next year.

How long has the Hawaii basketball coach been around?
Maybe he should be our representative!

I think it should be a coach with a long tenure!
