Are these the same NMSU Aggies who got there butts handed to them 45-0 in a mercy game last season at the Sun Bowl? Are these the same Aggies that haven't been to a bowl game since 1960? Are these the same Aggies whose last conference championship came in 1978 in that powerful Missouri Valley Conference? Are these the same Aggies who hired a coach that was caught cheating at Kentucky? Are these the same Aggies who hired an AD that was run out of Minnesota for that Clem Haskins fiasco? Are these the same Aggies that averaged 18,000 fans at their high school stadium last season? Are these the same Aggies that have an inferiority complex with regards to UTEP & UNM? You guys are delusional to think your going to beat UTEP. Also, you'll be in for a rude awaking playing the likes of Boise State, Fresno State and Hawaii. I predict a two win (Idaho/SJSU) season for the mighty Aggies and a bunch of lopsided losses. By the way, you guys sure talk a lot of crap for a program that hasn't done anything in decades. At least Miner and Lobo fans have had success in both football & basketball in the past few seasons.

I think it'll be more like 15,000 aggie fans and 10,000 Miner fans. This will be the teams first game under Mumme and they will be working out the kinks. I think Mumme's gonna turn things around, but not in the first game, and not against UTEP. Your hatred of UTEP has blinded you. I'm not saying we're going to blow you out, but we'll definitely win (and probably pretty convincingly). 2006 may be a different story.
I'd like to think the way WIAGGIE is but I am afraid like it or not I think ujep has a good team, it will be a tough fought game but the AGGIES will win it. And btw... their is know way in hell their will be 10K minor fan's and 15K Aggie fan's. I say 31K Aggie fan's and maybe 2K ujep fan's. Even though I think the stadium seats 30K...I am predicting that their will be close to 33 to 35 thousand people their, it will be an awesome experiance. Final score....49-42 AGGIES
WI: can you explain for us noncognoscenti just what "ujep" stands for? I know "j" = "h" in Spanish, but that helps not at all. Please include us in the joke.

I have seen them called UPET also. I don't know what that one means though.

I really do tend to agree with you that the new additions to the W.A.C. are in for a "rude awakening" when they have to face teams such as Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Nevada AND La Tech, but I also remember fans from UTEP, and Fresno State and Hawai'i and Nevada saying the exact same thing to Boise State and La Tech fans when we joined the WAC four or five years ago. And La Tech won the WAC in their first year in the WAC (in football) and Boise State has won the WAC every year since then. So, I think we'll just have to wait and see what happens. It should be interesting, but frankly I think the CURRENT make-up of the WAC is an improvement over what it has been when SMU, Tulsa and Rice were in the WAC.

I truly hate to see UTEP leave the WAC tho. Of the four departing schools their departure makes the least amount of sense to me. But good luck to UTEP nonetheless. Hope you guys kick some butt in C-USA this fall. 04-cheers

But I can't help but think the W.A.C. would have been better off this season with UTEP than without them. You guys will be missed, but I don't think many in the WAC will miss SMU, Rice and Tulsa much. They are just much better off (geographically) joining C-USA (nothing personal).

I think I can speak for most UTEP fans when I say that we will miss the WAC and some of the rivalries that we're just getting heated. We have been in the WAC for almost 40 years! I truly believe the WAC is just a strong a conference as the MWC or CUSA, but the perception of the WAC isn't that good.

Despite my fondness for the WAC, I think UTEP's move to CUSA makes a lot of sense, because we will align with Texas schools and get more national exposure eastward. Both of these factors will help in terms of recruiting. The other benefit, IMO, is a whole new pool of OOC opponents from former WAC schools. We'll be playing eastward in conference and can play westward out of conference.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I would've liked to be conference mates with NMSU. Despite all shots that fan's from each school takes at the other, I think NMSU has a bright future with all the new hires and a new conference. I'm looking forward to a competitive rivalry on a much higher level.

I will always be a fan of WAC schools and hope that the conference can stay intact, with some investment from the less-competitive schools to improve on their performance and facilities.

For the Spartans:

Level 1 (Toughest): @Boise St., @Fresno St., @Illinois - Fresno & Boise for obvious reasons. I include Illinois for it is the highest profile (IMO) OOC game on our schedule.

Level 2: @San Diego St., Nevada, Hawaii, @La Tech - While these schools are not at the level of Boise or Fresno, how well the Spartan compete vs. these teams will determine the success of this sesason.

Level 3: Eastern Washington, @Utah St., New Mexico St., Idaho - I think the most important of these, as least right now, is the EWU game. It is the first game of the Tomey era that is so important to changing the image of SJSU Athletics.

BSU, FSU, Hawaii and Louisiana Tech are going to rule the WAC this year once again..Good luck to everyone in the new WAC, except for the aggies from lost cruces..I hope you guys end up last in the WAC. The new teams are going to play some really tough top 25 caliber teams in the WAC..so it might be a hard inaugural season for the newcomers.

Ktulu7, good luck to LT, maybe one day your school and our school will be conference mates again and we can start up our rivalry once more, but until then good luck in the WAC and beat the hell out of them aggies from the south.

After last year's game, I'm gonna miss you UTEP folks. We need to play OOC in the future since we're not both in the WAC anymore. We should have this year, but we have North Texas because they've been talkin' so much crap. I'll enjoy beating the piss out of them for homecoming anyway.

I think the MO on North Texas is that they win all the conference games every year, but....they lose all of their non-conference games every year too!!!!

Yep, and it's not changing this year. I don't even think they'll take the Sun Belt. I'm looking at ULL or Troy to win it, to tell you the truth. ULL lost their games by like a point last year and should be better this year. North Texas loses too much. To hell with their RBs. They won't stand a chance against our LBs. I'd go as far as to say we've got BCS quality linebackers right now, and North Texas barely squeaked by all their Sun Belt friends last year. I'll just be glad to hear them stop talking smack to us, it's ridiculous. I'm sure they'll travel well because of their proximity, so there will be plenty of people to throw the damn tortillas back at on that day. lol

I think for Fresno State:

1. USC
2. Boise State
3. Oregon
4. Toledo
5. Hawai'i

Year in and year out they play a brutal OOC schedule.

How many good years has EnamusU had?? When was the last bowl game you went to?? Just be very happy that Mike Price felt sorry for you last year, as he called the dogs off early in 3rd quarter!

(F)aggie fans make me 03-puke they talk a lot of smack for a team that sucks!

Whats funny here is all the posts after this saying we (NMSU, USU, and Idaho) are in for a "rude awakening". No where in this thread did any of the new 3 predict wins over anybody...more/less the the self appointed natl champion miners  . what else is funny how the miners got an equal beating from the Aggies the previous time we played, only won 2 games year before last (against DII teams 04-bow ) and have no football tradition to speak of either.

Yes we all know, and rightfully admit that the WAC will be much tougher than the SBC. But nowhere, in any of our excitement to be part of something better, did we ever predict beating the quality teams in this league. We merely stated what we thought were our toughest opponents from hardest down. At best we said we thought we would be more competitive, and who knows in a few years.

All this does is show project orafice's need to dwell. Cuz that one mighty year only comes along so rarely often.
