Last time your team lost to a I-AA?
I thought it would be interesting to ask: When was the last time your team lost to a I-AA?

For Bowling Green, it looks like the last time was 1987, a 20-17 loss to Youngstown State.

The Falcons appear to be 6-0 since then with wins over Youngstown State (1988), Tennessee Tech (1999 and 2002), Liberty (2002), Eastern Kentucky (2003) and Southeast Missouri State (2004).

McNeese State was really good back then. They beat Louisiana 38-17 in 1987 in front of a home crowd of 33,828. It is the 3rd largest home crowd in McNeese State history.

When we played them in '88, the game was at McNeese State.

McNeese State was originally part of LSU and broke into it's own University in 1950.

Toledo also had a very close victory over I-AA Eastern Illinois and QB Tony Romo (now the Dallas Cowboys QB) back in 2000. We won the game 31-26, but Romo threw for 414 yards against us.

The last time UB lost to a I-AA? The last time UB played a I-AA, of course. It was a nice, swift 38-15 ass-kicking (with the last eight UB points coming in extreme garbage time) from Colgate. Yes, nothing like having your team get destroyed by a school with high academic standards that doesn't even offer scholarships in football. Why are we I-A again? We could actually beat Colgate when we were I-AA Linky. Yes, that game inspired the anti-bottom-of-I-A zibby you all know and love.

Last time NIU lost to a 1-AA....It's been so long that i can't remember that far. Oh wait, #6 SIU just two weekends ago. We also lost to Western Illinois in 2002 coming off of our victory over Wake Forest. The 1-AA programs in Illinois are all really good. Eastern Illinois (#22), Western Illinois (#19), Southern Illinois (#6), and Illinois State (#14) are all ranked in the top 25 1-AA poll right now.

A question about EIU. Why are they in the OVC? Weren't they interested in the Gateway Conference expansion? Seems like a better fit along with the Horizon or Summit leagues for other sports? Do they have a rivalry with WIU or SIU? Just curious. You never really hear about EIU...

Youngstown St. 26
Kent State 20
at Kent, OH

Very bad loss in a 1-10 year. This was the last Tressel YSU team. The Tressel YSU teams gave Kent fits. They would have been very competitive in the MAC.

Almost lost to Cal Poly - SLO in 2002 at home. Escaped with a 37-34 win

WMU lost to Eastern Illionis in 1996 a 2-9 season and the last one for coach Molde. That was two coaching staffs ago.

12 (twelve) and oh?????????????????

The embarrassing part of this thread is supposed to be the loss to the 1-AA team, not the wins.

In fact, Eastern Illinois University was a charter member of the Gateway Conference (1985). They left the Gateway after the 1995 season and joined the Ohio Valley Conference starting with 1996. I have no idea why they left the Gateway, possibly to get their sports programs under one conference (although, they currently have 2 non-revenue sports in other conferences)? I have always thought they seem out of place in the OVC.

They were left out of the mass defection of Mid-Con teams to the MCC so they looked elsewhere.

Don't think MU has ever lost to a 1-AA, cept maybe when the MAC was temporarily relagated to 1-AA by the NCAA (against the divisision's and school's in questions desire or even being asked). Only 1-AA we ever scheduled recently was a home game because no one would come replace the Colorado game even with ESPN offering to pay extra and televise it...

Akron's last loss to I-AA was 1995 to Youngstown State. We finished an impressive 2-9 while collecting a 24-10 loss to I-AA YSU that year.

You missed quoting Mr. Schade who also included 1AA wins in the post he started. Oh, and Tiffin. Findlay. Urbana. 03-wink

Under Tressel, the Penquins were as good or better than much of the MAC. Both KSU and Akron took their lumps from his State of Youngstown teams. He was one hell of a recruiter. motivator and coach. I believe Kent chose Glen Mason over Tressel back in 1986. Both were tOAMu assistants. YSU picked him up the next year I believe. How'd that work out...

YSU was also interested in Gerry Faust after he left Notre Dame but of course Akron won that battle and YSU had to settle for Tressel. Boy there's a lot of "what if" games you could play...
