You are correct. They made the Silicon Valley Classic in 2004. I was thinking last year's New Orleans Bowl was their first.
They were the reason the Silicon Valley Classic no longer exists.
What you saw on tv was because they were playing a big 12 school. And they sold their souls to get that game giving them a 3 for 1. Have you ever seen their other home games? My bet is no because they don't get on tv that much unless it's a money game. Last time we played them in Troy it quickly became a home game for us as everyone left once we began to pick them apart.
All right, I've read enough of this tripe from UA'sB team.
We
are not the reason the the Silcon Valley bowl folded. They were already in trouble before we went. The writing was on the wall for that bowl two years before when UCLA vs Fresno St. couldn't draw a crowd of more than 20K. Troy & N. Illinois just happened to be the last participants, but it was our first bowl, and I went to it and had a great time going to Troy's first bowl.
We didn't sell our souls for the Ok. St. game. We got the chance to play on national TV as the only game on. ESPN gave us several months notice and we were able to get all but one of the high schools in the Troy area to move their games to Thursday or Sat night. Our deal with Ok. St. is 2 for 1. The contract required them to come to Troy first, because after we beat Mizzou in '04, Iowa St. bought their way out of the contract which required them to come to Troy in '05, and we had already been to Iowa St. in '03.
As far as being a CUSA member, I think we would like that opportunity, and we have a plan to begin upgrading our basketball facility soon. The rest of our facilities are easily as CUSA levels. Our baseball field is undegoing another rennovation to improve it's appearance to potetially host NCAA regionals in the future. BTW, we are the only school from the state of Alabama that went to a Regional last season. We have work to do to continue improving our school and our programs, but we will persist.
Come join in or lurk on our board NO SPAM and you'll learn a whole lot more about Troy. Do not take a Blazer's word about Troy. FWIW, I think if Troy were to be invited to join CUSA, I think a perfect rivalry between UAB and Troy would be established, a'la UA vs AU. I also think we would develop a nice rivalry with USM and Memphis.
For the record, we did sell out the Oklahoma St. game, but due to the weather situation (Humberto), we did not have a full house in attendance.
