So, what I get from this thread is Mad Eagle telling us who should be eaten first if our plane goes down in the Andes. Way to look out for the conference, bud.

Adding Troy is a bad idea. They woudl do nothing for the TV contracts and I would guess that the quality of the football pro0gram would drop off in C-USA because of strciter academic standards. There are a lot of guys playing at the bottom levels of 1-A and in 1-AA that are good enough to play at better schools but they were partial or non-qualifiers and went to the school that would take them.

You are correct. They made the Silicon Valley Classic in 2004. I was thinking last year's New Orleans Bowl was their first.

They were the reason the Silicon Valley Classic no longer exists.

What you saw on tv was because they were playing a big 12 school. And they sold their souls to get that game giving them a 3 for 1. Have you ever seen their other home games? My bet is no because they don't get on tv that much unless it's a money game. Last time we played them in Troy it quickly became a home game for us as everyone left once we began to pick them apart.

All right, I've read enough of this tripe from UA'sB team.

We are not the reason the the Silcon Valley bowl folded. They were already in trouble before we went. The writing was on the wall for that bowl two years before when UCLA vs Fresno St. couldn't draw a crowd of more than 20K. Troy & N. Illinois just happened to be the last participants, but it was our first bowl, and I went to it and had a great time going to Troy's first bowl.

We didn't sell our souls for the Ok. St. game. We got the chance to play on national TV as the only game on. ESPN gave us several months notice and we were able to get all but one of the high schools in the Troy area to move their games to Thursday or Sat night. Our deal with Ok. St. is 2 for 1. The contract required them to come to Troy first, because after we beat Mizzou in '04, Iowa St. bought their way out of the contract which required them to come to Troy in '05, and we had already been to Iowa St. in '03.

As far as being a CUSA member, I think we would like that opportunity, and we have a plan to begin upgrading our basketball facility soon. The rest of our facilities are easily as CUSA levels. Our baseball field is undegoing another rennovation to improve it's appearance to potetially host NCAA regionals in the future. BTW, we are the only school from the state of Alabama that went to a Regional last season. We have work to do to continue improving our school and our programs, but we will persist.

Come join in or lurk on our board NO SPAM and you'll learn a whole lot more about Troy. Do not take a Blazer's word about Troy. FWIW, I think if Troy were to be invited to join CUSA, I think a perfect rivalry between UAB and Troy would be established, a'la UA vs AU. I also think we would develop a nice rivalry with USM and Memphis.

For the record, we did sell out the Oklahoma St. game, but due to the weather situation (Humberto), we did not have a full house in attendance.

If we're UA'sB team, and we've dominated you on the field the past two times we've played, what does that make you, AU's C team?

Of course, Troy recruits several JUCO transfers and many athletically talented high school students every year.

However, app. 20% of Troy's scholarship players (football) received academic awards and/or special recognition while in HS. We have several National honor society members, numerous HS honor students, former Senior class and Beta presidents, + all academic team members, etc.

For instance, 2 of Troy's future key players:

Jamie Hampton – QB, Freshman - (2007: 1 TD vs. Arkansas)

-> GPA 3.8, Beta Club, National Honor Roll and Top Twenty State Finalist for the Wendy’s Heisman, chose Troy over Purdue (committed to Purdue/fall 2006 and decomitted from Purdue in February 2007).

Austin Silvoy – WR, R-Freshman - (2007: 2 TDs vs. Florida)

-> Received an invitation to the 2005 Congressional Student Leadership Conference and was named to the National Dean’s List …Was nominated to the Global Young Leaders Conference

I'm sorry, but what bowl was it ya'll were in again last season? Oh yeah, how many bowl games have you been to? How many have you won? How many has Troy been to? How many has Troy won? How many years have you been D-IA? and Troy? What was your final score against FSU this year? What was ours last year? What was your score against Rice last year? What was ours?

Answers: none; 1; 0; 2; 1; 12+; 6+; 24-34; 17-24; 33-34; 41-17

Look, theb ottom line is that anything older than September 1st of this season is irrelevant to what happens from here forward. The direction we have travelled in the last 6 season plus is pretty apparent I think. What direction has UAB been going?

Keep in mind if we were to go to CUSA, I would like to see UAB stay in for the natural rivalry created. My lashing out was in reaction to the outright lies and misinformation being perpetrated by some UAB posters on this site. And for some to say we couldn't or wouldn't bring anything to CUSA is having your head where the sun don't shine.

Which team was dismantled and sold for component parts in its own home stadium the last time UAB and Troy played?

Answer: Troy

Troy87 Wrote:The direction we have travelled in the last 6 season plus is pretty apparent I think. What direction has UAB been going?

Troy has done about what UAB did in its first years at D1A level--fast improvement right out of the starting gate. However, admittedly, we plateaued. You might plateau too, it's too early to tell. Beating Rice in the New Orleans Bowl isn't exactly making it to the Debutante Ball.

We are now rid of Watson Brown so our plateau days will soon be over. Hope all you UAB haters enjoyed them while they lasted.

RE: Okay Im Gonna Piss People Off With This One !!!
Yes, UAB beat Troy in 2005 (and 2006) and we never had a chance to win this game. It was a rebuilding year (2005) and Troy's worst team in history. Our team was very inexperienced in 2005. UAB's starters were mostly seniors and very experienced. Currently UAB is rebuilding and Troy's team is the most talented team in Troy's history. (Some) UAB fans need to stop living in the past...

That's what UAB has accomplished in 1A so far (Y=year):

Y1 - - -
Y2 - - -
Y3 - - -
Y4 - - -
Y5 at LSU (W)
Y6 - - -
Y7 - - -
...............................
Y8 at Baylor (W)
Y9 vs Baylor (W), at Mississippi St (W), Hawaii Bowl (L)
Y10 - - -
Y11 - - -
Y12 - - -

Troy:

Y1 (transition year) at Mississippi St (W)
Y2 - - -
Y3 - - -
Y4 vs #19 Missouri (W), Silicon Valley Classic (L)
Y5 - - -
Y6 New Orleans Bowl (W)
Y7 vs Oklahoma State (W)

Troy has been more successful than UAB in its first years at D1A level.
It took UAB almost 5 years to beat a BCS team, Troy beat Mississippi State in Year 1 and Missouri in Year 4. UAB went to a bowl in its 9th season (Troy in year 4, and year 6). UAB is 1-4 vs BCS teams at home (Kansas (L), Virginia Tech (L), Pittsburgh (L), Baylor (W), Mississippi State (L)), Troy is 2-0 vs BCS teams at home (Missouri (W), Oklahoma State (W)).

EDIT

UAB vs Baylor (2003 & 2004) added

Were there any seasons where Troy had a winning record but didn't make it to a bowl? I know that was 2000 and 2001 for UAB. Just pointing that out, because it's not like all of our non-bowl seasons were losing records.

RE: Okay Im Gonna Piss People Off With This One !!!
I'd call it pretty even record-wise. I don't think there's that much of a gap between the two programs, a slight one in favor of Troy currently due to the bowl success. I can't help but wonder what would have happened had Watson stepped down post Hawaii bowl to go out on a high note. 20-20 hindsight, I guess.

I'm glad to see the series coming back beginning in 2009. It's a good game that draws a good crowd. Callaway looks to be doing a good job early, so we should be in the midst of an upswing when we start meeting again on the field. Good luck to the Trojans this year, looks like a good team.

Atheletically speaking, what would Troy bring to CUSA besides football? UAB consistently excells in several sports such as basketball, soccer, volleball, and synchonized swimming....can't forget that one. 03-yes And uh hello...Vonetta Flowers. How many olympic medalists went to Troy?
