With SportsWest being based in Utah and producing several USU basketball games, I'm surprised they aren't doing any USU football games. Is that because someone else already has them covered?

WAC Announces SportsWest Football Games
Monday, August 15, 2005
DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference today announced its SportsWest television games for the 2005 football season. The schedule includes seven WAC contests featuring eight of the nine teams in the conference. The games will be available in the markets of the two competing teams and are also usually picked up by ESPN’s GamePlan, a pay-per-view package available on most cable and satellite systems around the nation.
This marks the third year that the WAC and SportsWest have partnered together to get more of the conference’s games on television. Coupled with its ESPN/ABC schedule and other non-WAC packages, nearly half of the WAC’s games will be on national or regional television this season. The rest of the games are now available to the local stations in the markets of the teams in the WAC.
2005 SportsWest Schedule (times listed are tentative)
Oct. 8 Fresno State at New Mexico State, 6:00 p.m. (MT)
Oct. 29 Nevada at Boise State, 1:00 p.m. (MT)
Nov. 5 Hawai‘i at Nevada, 1:00 p.m. (PT)
Nov. 5 San Jose State at Fresno State, 6:00 p.m. (PT)
Nov. 12 Louisiana Tech at Idaho, 2:00 p.m. (PT)
Nov. 19 New Mexico State at San Jose State, 3:00 p.m. (PT)
Nov. 26 Boise State at Louisiana Tech, 6:00 p.m. (CT)

I'm having a hard time corroborating this, but I seem to remember hearing that the USU games against UNLV, @ Idaho, and @ NMSU could all be broadcast on SportsWest.
But I've been wrong before.

I could be wrong, but I think the games listed above are ones that SportsWest is producing, whereas they also broadcast (on Comcast SportsNet West) additional games that are produced by other companies.

Ha! USU is the ONLY school in the WAC not to have a game televised. I suppose I should not be upset, being that USU would make sense for sportswest from a financial standpoint (travel costs and advertisers), and, oh yeah, we're based in Utah ... typical BS.

Thats odd, a little while ago on the Sportswest webpage it listed 5 of USU's games being on. The games with UNLV, Idaho, Fresno State, Boise State and LA Tech. Now on the Sportswest page there isn't anything listed on the schedule link.
I don't remember how many games were on the first list I saw on their website but there were a lot more than they have listed now, as it is now the first Sportwest game isn't even until October. Hopefully the article just left a bunch off, I hope anyways.

Doesn't Sportswest have a separate contract with USU? Could be that USU games fall under the existing contract with USU and not the WAC one.

Word from the Checketts (owners of SportsWest) is that USU has contractual obligations to KJZZ, a local independent station owned by Larry Miller (Utah Jazz owner) who shows some ESPN+ and University of Utah games, that preclude SW from broadcasting any USU games.
Visit this link for more details:
<a href='http://mb3.scout.com/futahstatefrm3.showMessage?topicID=13196.topic' target='_blank'>UStateAgs.com discussion</a>
KJZZ has historically broadcast one or two USU games - with one always being the in-state game against Utah and the other often being cancelled due to "technical difficulties."
So, not only does USU lose out by not getting additional games broadcast, but the rest of the WAC loses out because any other game involving USU cannot be broadcast on SportsWest.
What a grand way to enter the conference - by shooting ourselves and our mates in the foot with broadcast restrictions. There sure had better be something to the KJZZ contract other than one game in Salt Lake City. :bang:

Well I found out why. As you've read we have a contract with KJZZ and it turns out that most of the games SportWest wanted to broadcast KJZZ already planned to run. So KJZZ wanted to do it instead of letting another company do the broadcasting.
