RE: Northwestern
There was a lot discussed about the Iowa fans outnumbering the NIU fans last Saturday but NW only draws when Big Ten teams come in. When they have big crowds the visitors always outnumber the NW fans. In fact I believe that there were more NIU fans than NW the last time we played in Evanston.

Plus, NU's students have not yet started school. Their attendance will improve.

Plus, they only have 14,000 students to begin with, and only slightly over half of those are undergrads.
That attendance is horrible, but factor in the small enrollment (and low % of undergrads), lack of students on campus for classes, and a 1-AA opponent and that was always going to be a tough draw for Northwestern from an attendance standpoint.
Although they don't typically draw well, they will definitely average more than 16,000 a game.

RE: Northwestern
youd think they would get a decent amount of people from around evanston that would like to enjoy a college football game.
im too lazy to look it up right now but what do they charge for tickets for these games? they probably need to have tickets ranging from $10-$15 for the first few games, ecspecially the OOC ones

RE: Northwestern
$10 or $15 dollars?
You jest of course.
I just returned from NU's tix webpage for Nevada.
TRY $20 end zone & $30.00 reserved
Never lose sight of our aspirations to reach the big time and what that means to a fan's pocketbook in many different ways.
good catch re: 16K and why attendance opening game is so low - unless you schedule NIU !
Does hosting Nevada in Chicago prompt any quesion re: who may be in attendance or visiting Yordon Saturday/Sunday ? Kickoff in Evanston is 11am.

Whoa, I had no idea it was such a small school.

RE: Northwestern
NU's f/t undergrad enrollment is 7826. 12th smallest of D1A institutions with a football program. In addition, 70% of NU's students live out of state and the fall quarter doesn't begin till the last weekend of September.
Winning is far more important than attendance and the Cats shutout the Huskies (Northeastern) 27-0. Why NU doesn't schedule more local/midwest regional teams during non conference games is hard to understand. Northeastern, Duke and Nevada aren't going to bring many fans. Attendance for the next 2 OOC games should be considerably higher In any event wins are far more important, nobody gets a bowl bid based solely on their attendance.

I'm pretty sure N'Western doesn't care too much about actual ticket revenues.

Actually last Saturday was North Shore Community Day (or something like it). Bottom line is that local residents could get 2 free tickets to the game if the wanted. In 25+ years of going to NU games that was least populated game I can recall.

RE: Northwestern
N'western did just fine with attendance last year:
New Hampshire - 20,108
Eastern Michigan - 21,935
Purdue - 27,171
Michigan State - 29,387
Ohio State - 47,130
Illinois - 22,242
That's just a shade under 28,000 per game. Even without the ridiculous Ohio State crowd, they averaged more than 24,000. Pretty good for a team that finished 4-8.

BG they have been in the BIG 10 FOREVER and are in a city of 6-7 million, those numbers in the 20's do not cut it. The MSU game they usually travel more, but must have been PO @ John L Smith. Illinois 22,000 WTF is that? IL & NU both locals 22,000! Memo to Mr. Phillips scratch IL off any Soldier Field game.

10K more fans per OOC game would net them at least $1M revenue, which would pay alot of expenses for non revenue sports.

why any school would not care about tix revenues is a mindboggling statement.
Just because NU is an elite school for elitists does not mean $ does not matter - it's quite the contrary.
People with money love money and deeply appreciate what it can do for you.

If I remember, NU is on the quarter system and may not start until this week or next. I was going to do an internship up there in 2004.
For the EMU game last year, I paid $35 for my ticket. That was pricey for that game.
