Mobile QB
I REALLY wish we'd get a mobile QB - it's too bad Billy Lowe didn't stay. There is no way you can win games like this when your line is dominated unless you have a quick QB. We seemed to have regressed ever since 2003 (that is becoming a speck in the rear view mirror).

I really can't wait until Joe retires and we get someone who can put an unpredicatable O on the field.

RE: Mobile QB
Dan Nicholson stands in the pocket like a statue. I particularly liked the ankle tackle Iowa had as Dan stood there motionless. Motionless until he was ripped to the ground, that is.

Horvath was worse than Nicholson was at just standing in the pocket.

I agree that Nicholson's pocket awareness blows. And that's not just from judging yesterday's game, but pretty much every game I've seen him play in. But you're nuts if you think Billy Lowe would've made the difference yesterday. Can't we just stop talking about him? I'm sure he doesn't want to dwell on NIU and I'm sure most of us don't want to have to talk about him ever again.

RE: Mobile QB
Billy Lowe was just an example I was using of a strong, mobile, fast QB. Insert whatever name you want - we are just no going to win the big games on a regular basis with these slow QBs with average arms - especially when the run it not working. You saw it against TCU and again Saturday. A mobile QB presents a whole additional world of options to defend against. I'm not saying it has to be a QB who runs first and passes second - but it needs to be a mobile guy who can shake things up on the ground AND in the air.

We had this argument 2 years ago. Britt was my choice at QB. Joe went with Horvath because he took the safe pick. I don't know why he recruits players like Harnish and Grady. Both are dual threat QBs. Grady will end up a DB or WR. Harnish will play LB or TE.

Amen. You hit the nail on the head. But don't attempt to question Lord Novak on this board or you'll have death threats from some of the robots who would take a bullet for him regardless of the decisions he makes.

RE: Mobile QB
This thread is silly too. We were facing the best front 4 in the Big 10 (and one of the best in the nation) on Saturday with a very inexperienced line. As a result, Dan was under intense pressure most of the game. Now, his first 2 picks were inexcuseable (he had Adonis open on the first one and the 2nd one was inside the 10 yard line, and the 3rd one was just late and him trying to make a play) and he still had 3 picks. But as for the mobility issue, that's nonsense. They were in his face all game long and really i'm not sure how much mobility would have mattered, if at all. But if you guys are desperate for the 1-AA QB that can't be found on his teams 2 deep, go ahead and be that pathetic. I won't.

Moving to WR was the best thing in the world that could have happened to Britt Davis. It gave him a realistic shot at the NFL.

Nicholson will improve dramatically over the next few weeks. If there is anything to be upset about from Saturday it is the offensive play calling again. We just do not put the players in a position to succeed out there. Nicholson is the very least of our problems, and about that TCU game, the only way he could have been safe is if he dug a hole in the field and hid. Absolutely no QB in the country would have had a chance vs that defense against our offensive line in the state it was in. The only other thing I worry about with the passing game is the overall speed of the WRs.

From what I heard....Harnish was poised to take the #3 slot at QB and if thats the case, there's no doubt in my mind he'll pass Morris its just a matter of time.

Yep, and Novak asked him he wanted to move back to QB this offseason and he declined. He was the one that approached Novak about playing WR in the first place.

He wants to be a WR.

If Britt wasn't a WR, NIU would have a serious weakness there as well.
