Duke wins a National Title
DURHAM, N.C. - Fifth-year standout Shannon Rowbury wrapped up her collegiate indoor track career in a blaze of glory last weekend, claiming the NCAA championship in the mile run and placing second in the 3,000 meters at the national meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
Along with becoming the first Duke woman to win an NCAA track crown, Rowbury picked up All-America honors in both events to become the most decorated track performer in Duke history. Her six career All-America citations are the most ever for a Blue Devil track performer, male or female.
Rowbury, who redshirted the 2006 track season, previously placed eighth in the mile at the 2004 NCAA indoors and took second in 2005. Her other All-America honors came in the 1,500 meters at the 2005 NCAA outdoor meet and at the 2004 NCAA cross country meet. And she could add to her total during the upcoming outdoor season.
