I'm crazy. I've got papers to prove it. But it keeps me from going totally insane.

I think it will be an eastern school: 1) because of the large NYC tv market the Big 10 covets, and 2) to keep Penn State happy.
I never really understood why the eastern schools don't just form a an entirely new conference:
Syracuse
Penn State
Boston College (they'd come back if PSU was in the mix)
WVU
Rutgers
UConn
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Stop at 8 teams and just hold a ninth spot for Notre Dame. They might just join with BC and PSU in the mix. Play no more than 7 conference games. That would give ND some scheduling flexibility.

If Penn State and BC were back in the fold, we might be able to convince Maryland to come along as well. They would make a great 9th member, and the 10th spot could then be held open.

"And if the presidents really get serious about it, they could leverage ND by agreeing to ban Big Ten teams from scheduling the Irish in football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, you name it. The non-revs may not match up as much as you'd think, but try putting together an appealing independent football schedule without MSU, Michigan, Purdue and the occasional Ohio State and Penn State, on it."
This is Notre Dame's achilles heel. I would love for every BCS conference to take this stand.

I really don't know if the Big 10 is more attractive than the BE for ND simply because of all the catholic schools they play in the BE. It's my opinion that if the BE does split that will be the end of ND's association with it. I get the feeling that ND playing Cuse regularly in basketball and that they have a contract in football is a big big reason the split has been voted down.
If the BE is to ever get ND for football, I think BC will have to return first. And BC probably definitely would return if ND were to become interested in joining as a full member. But that ain't gonna happen as long as they got a network in their pocket.

The BEast - in football - is the strongest conference, top to bottom, and that includes the SEC. I just wonder if the rest of the nation will notice that?
Syracuse fans certainly haven't. But they've been looking up from the basement, so I suppose we'll have to excuse that.
If ND does come into the BEast for all sports, I'd make BC pay through the nose to reenter.
