I'm still amazed at what Tomey has done in such a short period of time. Good job coach.

Did he win a co-championship in his second season?

Or go undefeated (13-0) in his first year as a head coach anywhere?

No doubt Peterson inherited a program at its pinnacle.

SJSU going 9-4 in Tomey's second year in pretty good. I think he'll have a pretty good team when he reaches year 4.

On Tech's part this is bad research. Quin Harris led the team in tackles at linebacker. How did Brannon Jackson (who might be a part time starter this year) get 2nd team ahead of him? I can buy Patrick Jackson as 2nd team but in the end of the season I expect Ian Johnson and Patrick Jackson to be 1st team. Dennis Morris will hopefully make some ALL WAC team this year after getting shunned last year from Freshman All American honors.

Anyone else have any surprise player for this year?

NMSU Aggie kicker. I am not sure who its going to be or even if we have one (according to a rumor on NMSU's board). Oh well, one more year of going for it on 4th down all the time 03-banghead03-banghead.

No doubt Peterson inherited a program at its pinnacle.

There is no doubt at all that Chris Petersen "inherited" a lot of good players when Dan Hawkins left. HOWEVER, what most people do not seem to realize is the fact that Chris Petersen had to assemble an entire coaching staff from scratch in just a couple of months as Hawkins took nearly everyone with him when he went to Colorado. Petersen sought out and hired two EXCELLENT coordinators in former Boise State QB Bryan Harsin as the Boise State offensive coordinator and Justin Wilcox (son of NFL Hall of famer and former Boise Junior College player Dave Wilcox) as Boise State's defensive coordinator. Both of those coordinators not only did well last season they excelled last season. And Petersen hand picked both of them.

Petersen also hired Sean Kugler away from the Detroit Lions to be the offensive line coach and Kugler's NFL O-line coaching experience was a huge part of why Boise State excelled last season. Unfortunately Kugler went back to the NFL after just one season at Boise State (to the Buffalo Bills).

Petersen also hired Brent Pease away from Baylor University to be the Boise State wide receivers coach. This will be Pease's 2nd season as the BSU wide receivers coach but Pease will also be the Assistant Head coach this season as well.

Petersen also hired Jeff Choate away from Eastern Illinois to be BSU's special teams coach.

Petersen also hired former Boise State football player, Pete Kwiatkowski, away from Montana State to be BSU's defensive line coach.

Petersen also hired former Boise State player, Scott Huff, away from Arizona State to be the BSU tight ends coach. Huff is currently the BSU offensive line coach (after the departure of Sean Kugler to the Buffalo Bills). Huff used to play Center for Boise State.

When Dan Hawkins left for Colorado he took all of the Boise State football coaches except for Chris Petersen (who was offered the offensive coordinator position at Colorado but he turned that down to remain at Boise State) and Defensive Secondary coach Marcel Yates and Linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Viliami Tuivai. So you have to give credit to Petesen for putting together this excellent group of coaches (in a matter of just a few weeks) after Hawkins left for Colorado. True, Boise State had a fully stocked cupboard of football players when Hawkins left but the coaching cupboard was pretty bare when he left. Petersen remedied that immediately. So give him some credit here.

P.S. No Division I football coach has ever won as many games as a new head football coach since Walter Camp went 13-0 at Yale way back in 1888. Camp went 15-1 in 1889 with that one loss being the last game of the season in 1889 (to Princeton by a score of 10-0). So the all-time record for the most wins without a loss by a Division I head football camp is held by Walter Camp at 28 wins with no losses. So Petersen still has a very long ways to go to reach that record.
