I got in an argument with someone on another board. Wanted to get a feel from the peanut gallery on this question.

Are these the only options?

Out of those 4 it would be Turkey.

Not sure, but as for Turkey I seem to remember hearing something about the fundamentalists rising in power there.

Turkey doesn't fund terrorism, to my knowledge. They have an upcoming election, but the results are subject to the military, which periodically takes action when the government violates secularist provisions in its constitution.

Depends if your question is about the actual government in power, the population, or vocal governmental faction(s). Turkey's government has long been decidedly, and determinedly, secular. They, and the majority of the population, zealously guard the legacy of Kahmil Ataturk which was grounded in the principles of secularlism and modernism. But there is a growing segment of the population that has been seduced by the "charms" of the Islamist movements, and they have secured some representation in the parliamentary structure...but it is very limited for now.

I was thinking the same thing. They had to reform due to survival reasons. They're running out of oil and are wanting to become the tourist capitol of the Middle East. Bahrain is also fairly moderate for many of the same reasons.

I would say Syria. They are more secular. They just have a kook running the country who wants to own more land.

I lived in Turkey for a few years and I would vote for them based on your choices. My own vote would be for Bahrain where there is a fairly liberal side of the Parliament and you can readily find bars, dance clubs and even plenty of whore houses (Endzone probably hit a few up)

Bahrain has a tourist industry with plenty of western visitors and some beautiful resorts. My company is looking at building a Ritz Carlton Club there based on the demand for real estate.
