I .... am .... stunned.
I just watched "America: Freedom to Fascism" by Aaron Russo.

Did you know:
- There is no law that requires Americans to pay Income Tax.
- The 16th Ammendment was never approved by the necessary number of states

And that's the tip of Wonderland, Alice.

I have never been so stunned and outraged at our federal government.

Just for grins, very superficial research yields this wikipedia article. If you want to make a genuine case that the 16th amendment isn't valid, go ahead (without claiming that Ohio wasn't a state until 1953, please).

i've heard decent arguments about the lack of statutes concerning income tax. i dont know enough about it to have an opinion either way. however, i do know that the 16th Amendment is legal and ratified. His argument on the matter is on extremely weak grounds(yes, i am talking about Ohio not being a state until 1953 among others). i have seen the documentary you mentioned. it isnt bad for the most part, but the 16th amendment rants kill it for me.

Oh I still pay my taxes, even the income tax. The alternative is shiny badge guys come with weapons to my home and arrest me and seize most of my ****. No whether or not I'd be found guilty is court is up for grabs. The IRS has, to date, failed to show where I am required as a US citizen to fill out a 1040 and do my income taxes. That alone has gotten scores of people found not guilty or acquitted. But that's a gamble .... you get a bad judge or a nimrod jury .... and you're screwed. And being that I live in SC, I don't give great odds to me getting a great judge or jury.

Regarding the 16th Ammendment, Rhode Island modified the ammendment. When it was found out they could not do so, they rejected it. Kentucky also modified it and ratified the modified ammendment. That should count as a rejection. You have to accept the ammendment as-is, without modification. Tennessee violated its state constitution in voting on it before a state legislature election. And so on. Rhode Island and Kentucky bring it down to 36 states approving, the exact minimum needed. Whether or not a state violating its own constitution/laws in ratification nullifies their vote is interesting, but I think at least in the case of Tennessee it should. I haven't had time yet to look into the others.

If you make this argument as an excuse not to pay your taxes, you will be fined and may go to jail. I commend to you to go to the following link.
http://evans-legal.com/dan/tpfaq.html#ratification

It basically says that no U.S. Court has ever agreed with a tax protestor in this argument and many have tried this argument. If you go simply to the main website of Mr. Evans it gives a compendium of all the bogus legal arguments raised by tax protestors for not paying their income tax. I would also encourage you to visit the website http://quatloos.com which takes a whimsical look at Tax Protestors and Financial Scams. Its got some really funny stuff.

Great links. There's a lot on the Evans page, but some real gems in there.

No US court? Explain how they came up with jurors who found people who didn't pay Income Tax not guilty. Explain how they came up with former IRS agents who didn't pay Income Tax who were found not guilty. Explain why the $50,000 bounty to show where Americans are legally required to pay Income Tax is still unclaimed.

You should definitely go through those links, especially Evans. It's in there.

Have any of you followed this story:

http://www.wmur.com/news/13460557/detail.html

They are still hold up in their home.

The last two sentences are particularly disturbing.

RE: I .... am .... stunned.
If you noted I said you "could" go to jail. The IRS has two weapons to throw at you, civil penalties and criminal ones. To be found guilty of crime by a jury the IRS must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person wilfully intended to violate tax laws. In that circumstance, ignorance of the law is an excuse. "I was stupid" is an excuse as to criminal laws. However on the civil side of things the IRS can find you guilty of tax fraud and fine you 100% of the tax you owe and double the interest owing and you have to essentially prove that you are not guilty of fraud. In that circumstance the government need only prove that it was more likely than not that you wilfully intended to violate tax laws and that ignorance was wilful ignorance. With the bar that low, the Government wins every time. So while you might not go to jail for being stupid, you could face civil fines which by the way are NOT avoided by bankruptcy. You will also get fined by the Tax Court for civil contempt for wasting its time.

One last thought, by reading this thread, you pretty much cannot claim in the future that you didn't know what the law was or that you were ignorant. JMHO.
